Iran sending warships close to US borders

TEHRAN: A senior Iranian naval commander says his country has sent several warships to the Atlantic Ocean, close to US maritime borders for the first time.

The commander of Iran's Northern Navy Fleet, Admiral Afshin Rezayee Haddad, is quoted by the official IRNA news agency as saying today that the vessels have already begun the journey to the Atlantic Ocean via waters near South Africa.

Iranian officials said last month that the fleet consisted of a destroyer and a logistic helicopter carrier, which will be on a three-month mission.

Haddad says the fleet is approaching US maritime borders for the first time. The Islamic Republic considers the move as a response to US naval deployments near its own coastlines. The US Navy's 5th fleet is based in nearby Bahrain.

How so? By sending some small ships to international waters?

U.S has lined up aircraft carriers and destroyers just off the Iranian coast in Arab countries and that isn't an obstacle to 'peace', but some ships that are not any threat to U.S are a danger to peace? That's not true by any means and U.S also won't mind much about it, if they are sane of course.

This is just a showcase. As during kinda "peace process" between Iran and US, Iran is trying to benefit from that timeline for a power projection thats all. Otherwise, we all know well that any Asian&ME flagged ship will get its Swiss cheese a$s kicked in US maritime territories.

This is more like a maneuver, not flexing muscle and it wouldn't make any sense if it was. It may also have some political aspects of course, but Iran has a growing navy and corvettes/destroyers under production, so I don't think it's a bad idea to train your forces for long distant operations, not that it may necessarily come in handy, since Iran's military doctrine is based on deterrence, but still it would be a good experience.
