What's new

Iran MP's OK increased Military budget & ask Gov't to increase Missile Capabilities

Around $14 billion? Why such a weak military?

1st off IRGC also has it's own income that's NOT included here

2ndly
An MQ-1 costs US $5 Million for export an MQ-1C costs U.S. allies $20 million USD
Iran's Shahed-129 with ground equipment in total cost under $500,000

A Javelin costs $250K
A M-47 $20-$50K
Iran's Saegheh & Toophan class ATGM cost Iran $2k-$10K
A Safir Jeep costs Iran $5,000 USD to make Iran's version of the Humvee cost $12,000 USD to make

And the list goes on and on and since Iran produces over 97% of it's military accusations and almost all of Iran's Defense companies are government owned so they are not out to make a massive profit from Iran's Military and Iran is rich in natural resources & the military industry gets them at cost because Iran's government owns 90% of all mines in the country

Here http://www.mindexcenter.ir/ everything you see there without exception started production over 10 years ago and are weapons Iran is willing to export because they are capable of producing them well beyond the countries needs, don't compromise national security & are within international restrictions!
Now that's just a small fraction of what Iran's military industrial complex is producing today! So that's 1000's of products produced by companies most of whom (NOT All) who get their paychecks from the government under a separate budget

So it's either $14 Billion + ~$5 Billion that goes to these defense companies,...
OR it's $20 Billion + $5 Billion that goes to defense related government owned companies,....

And I believe it will be about 5% of Iran's GDP (nominal) NOT the government Budget so regardless it will be ~ $20 Billion - $25 Billion USD
Last years budget was ~$16 Billion USD (Total)
Last year the cost of Paychecks + Benefits for Iran's Military & Defense Industry alone was $6 Billion

Regardless, aside from IRGC's income Iran's military budget should not be below $30 Billion USD especially since $6 billion of which goes towards Paychecks & Benefits!

Military industry spearhead technology that effect over 90% of all industries so the more money you spend on your military industry the more money you pump into the economy and the more you develop new technologies and advance your civilian industries

Iran is making a mistake! The budget is too low! As long as the increase of the budget is spent inside the country towards advanced weapons & equipment that have duel use applications the better off all industries in Iran will be in the long run especially if the weapons aren't being used as a means to make money off the military like it is in the U.S.!

Why such a weak military?

Cost of manufacturing is lower. We make almost the entirety of our arms domestically.

But the budget has to start going up soon as Iran will have to make some sweeping modernisation across the military. Basically the entire air force has to be replaced, as do the vast majority of the army's armoured forces and most of its helicopters. The army also needs new assault rifles, armoured vests to be standardised and the navy needs larger warships. Next few years Iran is going to have to go on a spending spree and that may upset some people because they'd think we are becoming militaristic, but we actually have to replace the arms that are right now basically obsolete.

Then why does Iran have 2000km weapons?

To deter Israel and other threats from a safe range within Iran's borders. They are significantly cheaper than IRBMs, by the way.

as they are not very accurate.

This has been the case for the past few decades, especially with the stereotypical scud type BM. But all you need is a precision warhead and suddenly you have a warhead going at supersonic or hypersonic speed making it extremely difficult to intercept. With accuracy, they can be good for high value targets. Iran's most accurate ballistic missiles are the Fateh-110, Fateh-313, Khalije Fars and Emad missiles.

Cruise missiles are therefore more effective to target enemy from a stand off range

They are very different platforms and have their own unique advantages/disadvantages.

we should have nuke ...

What use will nukes have??? Even if we had them, Iran would NEVER be able to use it! Never! And if anyone dares to nuke Iran, they will get their answer!!!!! And if Iran ever required a nuke Iran could easily purchase 100kg of highly enriched uranium from N.Korea (If they haven't already) & enrich the rest on it's own to 30% in a matter of months & you have a nuke!

It's nothing but a waist of money! A countries defense industry spearheads technology & is the back bone of 90% industries in your country! Being able to build advanced processors, electric engines, piston engines, jet engines, composite materials, telecommunications, aircrafts, vehicles of all sizes, robotics, naval industry, space industry,..... These all have duel use applications

So the more Iran spends on it's military industrial complex the more advance every industry in Iran will be and the better off Iran's economy will be in the long run

It seems as though that a nuke would ensure Iran's survival due to the example set by North Korea, but given the US and it's ways of punishing states that don't follow their rules. Iran will have the worst sanctions placed on it because of its nukes but it will have a higher survivability rate due to fact that now Iran's deterrence ability is increased substantially.

I guess the question that has to be asked is, how many ballistic missiles does Iran have? and how many is it planning on building with this recent budget increase. I'm guessing Iran is aiming for a ballistic missile force with the physical missiles in the thousands.

Missiles, missiles, missiles, missiles. Interesting to say the least.

But hopefully Iran will invest in modernizing its military across the board but that will take a budget of around 50-60billion at least.

Lets hope the 4 Kalibr missiles, which "landed" in Iran were not that much damaged and Iran will be able to reverse engineer them.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...n-cruise-missiles-crash-in-iran-a6686856.html

Conspiracy therorys says Iran jammed them so they landed on iran soil...

If true Iran has access to nearly latest russian cruise missile technology, it will be huge if reverse engineering possible
