Investment and Development news of Myanmar

Oh yeah,a country like Myanmar is not suitable to have large developement projects due to their nascent 60-70 billion worth economy.
actually we dont need it. our electricity demand is not high and enough with gas-fire plant using our huge gas reserve. so we wont pour our money in one sector.
Bangladesh has the 5th largest green jobs in the world for renewable energy.

Pour your money in one sector? We pour our money almost equally in most sectors and invested/are investing multiples of that amount in one city alone ( Dhaka ofcourse ).The Iconic Tower would cost 4 billion,Metro Rail Projects and Bridges would be worth 10 billion,water treatment and supply improvements would be 5-6 billion and etc etc etc.

Myanmar is still lacking in development progress ( mainly due to the civil war ) but once the actual boom starts ( ours did after 2009 ) you would see a huge amount of infastructure popping up and a sharp rise of electricity demand,so your government should be a little careful.If you have surplus electricity,you can export some to your neighbouring countries - India's NE which has a huge fuel supply & electricity problem.

i'm talking about Myanmar not bangladesh. actually we have a lot of scope in infra projects to do in countrywide. and if we have $11B , we can distribute $ 2~3 B to 2GW gas fire plants ( Myanmar found a potential of huge gas field in 2 days ago ) , $ 5 B to Metro rail etc.. really appreciated to ur development projects. but situation of both countries cant be the same..

Are those projects planned or undergoing? I'll believe that these are potential future projects becuase its not possible to invest 2-3 billion USD on something discovered 2 days ago and you also said "if we have $11B" so I don't you guys have that amount of free cash in your pockets.

And BTW,where did you find that "huge gas field"?

gas-firing plants are on going.. we already have one of largest gas reserve in SEA and many gas fields are operating.. it's still ok even if we dont found any gas in coming 10 years. Metro Rail Project is still in proposal state. current transportation system is still ok for 5.2 million in Yangon urban area.

Malaysia-based Tan Chong Motor Co Ltd, which has been given the all-clear to make and sell Nissan cars in Myanmar, says it is planning to manufacture around 500 per year.

“The new 'Sunny Sedan' is the first to be manufactured in Myanmar. The process is running now,” said a company spokesperson.

The car has a 1.5-litre engine with a four-speed automatic version and prices ranging from US$15,000 to US$18,000 with about 150 cars sold in advance.

The Malaysian company granted official dealer status to three domestic companies: United Diamond Motor Co Ltd in Yangon, Pacific Alliance Motor Co Ltd in Mandalay and Shwe Sagaing Motor Services Co Ltd in Sagaing.

The company said it had a factory in Hlaingthayar Township and it was building its first full manufacturing factory in Bago with production due to start next year.

we have big land. so we must investment in all sectors to get well balance development.

it already said the price range would be $15000 to $18000..

But they are not investing at all in the defence sector except Bangladesh Navy.

Imported cars in Bangladesh cost 6 times than the normal after all the importing costs and taxes.We got too many cars in here ( a sign of our high consumption per capita )

how many car in BD..!? imported from where..!? in coming few years , nissan and ford will export to BD via car factories in Myanmar. it will be a lot reduction in extra cost.

Well,local companies will produce cars in the near future.Walton,Bangladesh's leading electronics company already makes a decent range of motorcyles and would probably make cars in the near future.Not Nissan or Ford,its an indigneous company making indigneous vehicles.

Bangladesh has 308,000+ private passenger vehicles registered by the BRTA (equivalent of the dept. of motor vehicles). Note that there hundreds of thousands of other vehicles on the road too, including trucks, semi-trucks of various, buses, tempos, human-haulers as well as 238,000 auto-rickshaws.

Of these a large portion of the private passenger vehicles are imported re-conditioned from Japan directly, just like in Myanmar. However unlike Myanmar, we don't import a lot of re-conditioned public transport from Japan. We mostly assemble them locally from CKD (complete-knock-down) or SKD (semi-knock-down) kits. The bus and truck bodies are made locally as well.

This is similar to how Myanmar is doing SKD/CKD above with 500 units of Nissan Sunny annually you showed above (known as Nissan Versa in US and other markets).

Motorcycles are mostly manufactured locally from CKD kits and half of the companies also have engine design and manufacturing capability from scratch using CAD/CAM design for metal-stamping and engines locally as well. Bangladesh has 1724369 registered motorcycles, I'd say 99% of them assembled/made locally.

PRAGOTI is the oldest state-owned vehicle manufacturing complex in Chittagong, they have made Vauxhall Viva and Mitsubishi vehicles in the past (PAJERO, Lancer) for govt. and private use (Vauxhall Viva starting in the 60's).

Nowadays they are assembling Mahindra Scorpio S10 SUV & Scorpio Double Cab pickup for sale locally.

WALTON is planning to go into vehicle manufacturing.

PHP group (a large steel sheet manufacturer) is already setting up a plant in the South of Bangladesh for CKD assembly of Proton cars for local consumption/export.

I have also heard other conglomerates discuss assembly of smaller Chinese vehicles (Geely, Cherry runabouts etc.) on occasion but nothing is concrete.

Good job! Are these factories being made in SEZs? Which ones if so?
