On the path to become a true superpower, India has sought military influence in other nations for quiet sometime now. Here is a list of some of the military endeavors which India has embarked upon:

1.Madagascar - A listening Post of Indian navy started its operations around 2007. The monitoring station provides India with electronic eyes & ears in the southwestern Indian Ocean. Located in northern Madagascar, it is linked with similar facilities in Kochi & Mumbai. It is helpful for gathering intelligence on foreign navies operations in the region.

2.Mozambique - Indian navy took charge of Mozambique's sea security during the African Union summit of 2003. It regularly patrols the waters around Mozambique to keep piracy in check.

3.Seychelles - Seychelles sorted Indian navy help for anti-piracy operations in its waters & Indian navy patrols its EEZ.

4.Oman - India has set up a naval air base in Muscat, Oman. Also Indian navy has berthing rights there.

5.Qatar - Under the historic defense cooperation pact of 2008 India has committed its military assets to protect Qatar from external threats. Officials said about this pact as "just short of stationing troops on ground".

6. Tajikistan - Farkhor Air Base located in Tajikistan has an Indian Air Force presence since long. This is IAF's only foreign base active.

7. Nepal - India has long stated that any attack on Nepal will be considered as an attack on India & committed itself to the defense of this landlocked nation. It was reported in 2009 that India is going to construct an air base in Surkhet for IAF's operation (not sure if is active). India is also the largest arms supplier to Nepal.

8. Vietnam - Indian navy has berthing rights in Vietnam & regularly gives port call there. They have a good security cooperation to keep an eye on China.

9. Maldives - A small island nation which was saved from outside coup by immediate armed intervention by India, Maldives is now under India's security grid. India has set up radars on all 26 atolls of Maldives & networked with Indian coastal radar system. Indian coast guards regularly conducts sorties & patrols in Maldivian waters to keep its security intact.

10.Bhutan - Bhutan is totally under Indian Defense cover. India has considerable influence over this landlocked country as it is surrounded by India on three sides. For air cover & assistance, Bhutan is dependent on IAF's Eastern air command. The Indian army maintains a training mission in Bhutan known as IMTRAT (Indian Military Training Team), responsible for military training to Bhutan Army. India is also responsible for supplying of arms & constructing strategic roads in Bhutan.

Apart from these India regularly conducts military training exercises with other nations & have defense cooperation agreements with Russia, Japan etc.

Please add to this list if possible........

Yeah I have heard countless times this type of claims and in this same forum, Arabs especially Saudis said that Pakistani help was all in the past. AFAIK, there is no Pakistani base in ME

Atleast we have. Our sphere of influence is Indian Ocean and we have this pretty much covered with Andaman on one side and Mauritious on the other.

You need to build your sphere of influence gradually and peacefully, and India is doing the right thing, they are moving slowly but surely. A lot of countries want India to have bases or military ties with them, India has a lot more friends than most of you think.

US is the super power because of its presence in Pakistan . Now China is trying to become super power . India became a semi super power (regional power) in 1971 :P

Nigeria,Afganisthan,Iran,Phillipines, to be the next ....

It s speculated tht the IAF does operate fighters in Tajikstan and to AFBs. Also Omani ties are increasing rapidly on the military front- the ROAF Jags conduct regular exercises with IAF Jags in India and Oman, Oman is very interested in the Darin UPGs HAL is offering, Oman has given IN berthing rights (one of few countries it has given such rights to- Pakistan doesn't have this btw) there is regular high level delegations of Omani army coming to India to visit Indian training institutions plus much more. It has also been reported the INSAS will become the standard AR of the Omani Army!!

Lots of speculations from ur side as always...none of which are true most of the time... as for INSAS good luck... even the donated ones used by nepalese army were shunned as they were known to get heated and jam during battles...As for Pak-Oman relations here:

Pak Navy n Omani Navy hold drills regularly... And PAK NAVY does have berthing rights to omani ports.... and we had been using them in the past...While Pak Army has presence in Tajikistan aswell training their ARMY... While u can speculate all u want... the truth is tht indian airforce has a MI series heli based in tht airbase and cant be used against us.. even if you wish too.... or die trying.

.

May be in the past. Any sources that it continues to this day.

LoL the insas is a terrible weapon with some serious flaws, it will not be bought by other militarily's for that reason. Many of the middle eastern countries employ retired Pakistan personnel.
