First of all there was no need to open a new thread....

There are 9 NOPV (4 GSL + 5 Pipavav)
8 P8i LRMR
LUH and 10 ton category multi role helicopter delivery will also start by 2015.

Its aridaman btw not arindam.Another akula can be a possibility if sub fleet declines further.

It is very important for IN to include private shipyards more actively in shipbuilding efforts of the country. We have to produce as many ships per year as we can produce indegeneously as possible. We can also bring Russia & South Korea to the picture by giving more talwar class frigates order & also utilizing the advanced technology of SK.

We needupdage of army as97% old junks required.
We need
tops artilary
howitzer
surface to air missile
air defence guns etc etc. Immediately
weneed more 3000 new era tops mountain howizers change pichora 1 -2etc. Need more radar guided tops with projectiles change direction to reach movable target

IAC-1 Vikrant would be commissioned for sea trials by year-end, right? And put into service by 2014. Are
there any delays? if not there IN will have it eventhough it wont be in active service. Aren't they counting that
chinese navy has Varyag right now eventhough it would be in service only by August this year?

INS Viraat will retire only by 2018, and thus by 2015 we'll have 3 carriers...the IAC-2 will come by 2017 and
a time lap of 1 year means we'll have 4 carriers in that year, although Navy ultimately plans to have
6-7 carriers i've read in an article somewhere.

We can include 1 project 17a (follow on of Shivalik class) frigate before 2015 timeframe & all 7 by 2018-20:tup:

The OPVs are large and expensive yet very lightly armed with only CIWS and a naval gun. I know these are patrol vessels but in times of war are they meant to expand their role?

+ atleast 2 LPDs!!

Dude we are yet to issue the tender for LPD , only the RFI has been issued .
The RFP is expected this FY , with contract being signed in 2014 . The first LPD/LPH will be delivered within 48 months of signing the contract while remaining will follow in 8-9 months intervals

Frankly I expect South Korean Dokdo Class to win this tender , Well for one its the cheapest option costing some 600 Million USD each compared to the french Mistral class at 750 Million USD , and American San Antonio class at 1.2 Billion USD each

It weighs in around 18800 Tons Full load and can embark upon 720 marines (+300 crew members), 10 tanks, 10 trucks, 7 AAVs, three field artillery pieces,15 UH-60 Black Hawk or 10 SH-60F Ocean Hawk helicopters, and two LCAC hovercraft capable of landing on enemy shores doing 40 knots (74 km/h)—a mix that enables it to launch troop landings from both sea and air.
Add to that it can also operate upto 8 F35B or 12 Sea Harriers

So while it cant carry as many troops or tanks as Mistral and San Antonio , but its price and South Korean willingness to transfer every thing to win the contract and the ships ability to function as a light Aircraft carrier should their be a need , provides it with a crucial edge

I would be most happy if P-17A can start entering service in 2015 , since that would mean that we can replace Godavari class directly with the P17A Frigates since Godavari class will be decommissioned between 2015-2020.

But it is unlikely that P17A will enter service in 2015 , coz even the construction has not begun yet , it was supposed to start at GRSE in Nov 2011 , BUT DUE TO DELAY IN Modernisation of the yard the construction will begin by end of 2012 in GRSE AND early 2013 in Mazagaon Dock

The ships will take atleast 6 yrs to construct even though they are mainly an improved version of Shivalik class , thats coz even Russia which is far more capable at ship building , took 5 yrs to construct the Teg class which was a follow on order for Talwar class.

Hence we would be lucky if these ships enter service in FY2018

This is also the reason why MOD is looking to acquire 4 Frigates from a Foreign company as a hedge against delay in P17A,P15B , With the BAE Systems Type 26 Global combat Ship Design being the likely winner
