I have a question If this statement is true then why India is buying this from Israel for her own use ?

I have a question If this statement is true then why India is buying this from Israel for her own use ?
1. India bought Israeli AWACS almost a decade back. These have been developed only now.

2. Indian air coverage plan is a hub and spoke kind of system. Israeli Phalcons are the Hubs. These EMB based DRDO AWCS are the spokes. Smaller detection range compared to larger Boeing/IL based systems. They are like the PAF Erieyes. However more hubs are needed.

3. At max, 2 more Phalcon AWACS will be procured. Current inventory is 3.
Whereas the total number of AWACS that IAF and IN will eventually acquire is over 12. The gap will be fulfilled by DRDO AWACS.

Because Phalcons are among best in the world and our AEW&C will be ready only by next year. Our Airforce have ultimately a requirement of around 20 Indigenous AEW&C with initial order of 3.

Completely different classes. The Phalcons are complete AEW&CS. Our domestic versions are more like AEW+ some good CS. Range and capabilities of the Phalcons are better. But you need a mix of those 'big' platforms with our lighter platforms to get good coverage.

@Cheetah786

Phalcons

India is buying both of them. We bought Phalcon AWACS from Israel in 2004 while 3 DRDO AEW&C will be inducted 2015.

Besides Phalcon is altogether different class, its bigger, more powerful n has better range but its much more costly too. DRDO AEW&C is more similar to Eyerie than Phalcon.

This platform has the potential to become a lethal force multiplier.

Shows how DRDO works, everything in their interest. What is more important, getting the AWACS ready for operational service and for the defence of the country, or showing off in foreign countries? :hitwall:

The Israeli AWACS Phalcon is different and is meant for a different role. Think of your Swedish Erieye and Chinese ZDK as an example.

The role is exactly the same, only the capabilities of the aircrafts / platforms are different.
