India to soon look for contracts to launch heavy satellites: ISRO chief

America denied us this technology 20 years ago. If they didn't we might have had a manned mission to moon and a space station by now. But now US is considered as a friendly nation. So idk but with cheaper solution to heavy satellite launch available ESA might get a bit upset as there are chances it will lose some business.

Stop pointing the finger at just the US...as you know the real reason you haven't received cryo tech.

Besides the US isn't exactly the only country that has cryo tech...Russia, France, Japan and China as well as the European Space Agency have it.

why people are saying america is blocking russia from transfering cryo engine tech to india? all the previous gslv failures were all equipped with russian made upper stage cryo engines. ISRO even blamed those engines were the cause of all the consecutive failures. before those failures, all i saw on the news everywhere "indian indigenous ..blaa..gslv..bla " lol.. i suspect the engine on this latest test is also made by russia. you don't hear em blaming russia is because the launch went well. :)

you're the troll here. i'm speaking the truth here. this latest launch is indeed also a russian made engine. this is the last one, 7/7, that they bought from russia years ago.

funny. this article is saying this is indigenous, then at the bottom. lol.. anyone with a brain can figure out that this is the last engine out of 7. :D

India had got seven cryogenic engines from Russia, and Isro has used six of them. With no affordable supply coming from abroad, India felt the necessity to develop its own cryogenic engine, which uses liquid hydrogen as fuel and liquid oxygen and oxidizer.

Isro successfully launches indigenous cryogenic engine-powered GSLV-D5

Isro achieved the feat after two failures earlier. While India has mastered the PSLV range of rockets with a string of 25 consecutive successes, GSLV, which can carry heavier payloads including humans to space, has remained a challenge.

In April 2010, Isro tested its first indigenous cryogenic engine, but it failed a little less than a second after the cryogenic stage ignited. A refurbished GSLV-D5 was to be launched in August 2013, but a leak in the liquid fuel tank forced the mission to be aborted two hours before the rocket was to lift off.

Cryogenics, the science of extremely low temperatures, has posed a challenge to rocket scientists across the world.

still this won't stop all those western funded anti national NGOs, Human Right walas and Socialist idiots who are against further investment in science and technological research and development or anything which can be beneficial in development of our country
An insignificant number of idiots aren't going to hurt India's long-term aspirations. As more and more people get educated, as they see the benefits such investment in science and tech can bring less and less people will listen to those fools. I would be quite pessimistic on this front had Kudankulam gone another way but the fact it was completed, went critical and is now providing power to India's national grid and looking to be expended, one can afford to be an optimist :D

The question of why exactly one should sign said treaty isn't settled.....bending down just coz US wants to screw us doesn't sound logical enough :D:enjoy:

Be optimistic there , no one is gonna support people like Udayakumar and Bhusan in Tamilnadu.
On topic the GSLV is indeed a important milestone in future space aspiration of ISRO.

with victory of one of those type of organisation in recently held elections mostly from the support of educated urban youths and middle class despite of that group openly stating about their bizzaire policies like opposition to kudankulam nuclear power plant, removal of army from kashmir and holding referendum etc. I dont have much hope from even educated persons either

None of which has actually transpired!

lets wait till parliamentary elections and see whether these idiots manage to come to power if they do all trust me all those will happen in no time. these idiots are 1000 times more worse than congress.

It seems ISRO is confident, though I agree with you.

May be they are sure that they have mastered everything.

typically 3 launches (called 'D'). But that doesn't stop them from flying payloads from abroad if the customer is ready to risk. I think at least one GSLV payload till date has been Russian. I'm sure by end 2014 we should have done at least 2 more. So looking at 2015 for customers is just fine.

And what possible gain it would give ISRO by lying about the indigenous cryo engine?? Moreover, when ISRO is riding high on MOM , why would an agency put itself in this delicate situation?? Suppose, ISRO is lying, then how would it launch the satellites on GSLV for which it is going to open tenders soon?? Is ISRO going to smuggle cryo engines from Russia for every launch without anyone noticing?? And don't blame the journalist of the article, the Chairman of ISRO publicly on LIVE television said about the indigenous engine and the Rocket launch was broadcast-ed on television. Since, you are smart one, I would love to hear details of this so called "cover-up".
