India Ranks Lowest Amongst BRICs in Innovation

Let me try and help you understand that India ranked BOTTOM...it's hard for any one to do worse.

Haq's Musings: PISA & TIMSS Confirm Low Quality of Indian Education

Good point.

You are relating PISA test score to Innovation Index yeah?

India second last in PISA= 64 in Innovation Index

Pakistan if it ever took PISA(imagine the ranking)= 133rd in Innovation Index( 8th from the very bottom).

Makes sense:lol:

Where do you think innovation comes from?

From the govt? or the people? especially youngsters?

What if they are the product of a poor quality education?
The average Indian child taking part in PISA2009+ is 40 to 50 points behind the worst students in the economic superstars. Even the best performers in Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh - the top 5 percent who India will need in science and technology to complete globally - were almost 100 points behind the average child in Singapore and 83 points behind the average Korean - and a staggering 250 points behind the best in the best.

The average child in HP & TN is right at the level of the worst OECD or American students (only 1.5 or 7.5 points ahead). Contrary to President Obama's oft-expressed concerns about American students ability to compete with their Indian counterparts, the average 15-year-old Indian placed in an American school would be among the weakest students in the classroom, says Lant Pritchett of Harvard University. Even the best TN/HP students are 24 points behind the average American 15 year old.

Thats what I am saying, India ranked 64th in Innovation index cause apparently we are dumb( based on PISA test). Using same logic, Pakistan ranked 133rd(8th from the bottom) in Innovation index. What does that tell you about Pakistanis?

Indeed ... India is behind Russia and China in tech. prowess ... no doubt about that..

Russia has a Soviet legacy of mammoth technological capabilities... and robust fundamentals left behind ...

China has almost reverse engineered everything from Soviet/Russian technologies with some glitches that come with
reverse engineering that they are making up by copying western tech. and also has huge potential in rapid-ally improvising
human capital with solid financial back up..

... the only thing going for India is that India has huge talented human capital and also has a huge expatriate population who is
patriotic and has roots in almost all new western technological advancements... who can become a catalyst in improving indian technical capabilities as the recent trend shows of reverse brain drain from west to India. ... combined that with incoming transfer of technology agreements that India unlike any other non-western nations can get easily from USA, Europe and Russi.. ... with a solid govt backing .. India can surely make a mark in any field...

Anyone can grab one small part of an Index to make themselves feel better, but what you don't seem to realize is that if you score highly on one sub-index and score low overall... then you score VERY low on the other sub-indexes.

Here are the actual rankings from the latest Global Innovation Index for the BRIC countries:

China - 34
Russia - 51
Brazil - 58
India - 64

And it's interesting to note that India is actually falling downwards in the index.

sometimes the ranking doesn't give the true pcture. we have a ranking of MPI of emerging markets as below, post #106, and we can see, China 3rd ranked, India 6th and Turkey 10th but the difference is very large between 3rd and 6th. and yes, China is really doing better than other emerging economies.........

BRIC is great, except for one. :cheesy:

I'll give you a hint, it's the one that Jim O'Neill (the economist who invented the idea of BRIC) said was the "most disappointing of all".

Saudi Arabia ranks - 48 , above Russia and Brazil!! WTF????

Saudi Arabia has an enormous amount of cash per person, and their recent scientific achievements are quite good.

And Qatar has even more cash per person than Saudi.

so more money high rank.. so why compare poor india against rich countries?? Anything make feeel good to you ..eh?

Money helps, absolutely. But it only helps so much, the systems within a country (such as the educational system) play a big role too.

As for your other question, Indians love to compare themselves to everyone, we're only obliging you.
