Emerging Threats - Briefing

India moves troops to China border

Published: Dec. 14, 2007 at 10:12 AM

NEW DELHI, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- The Indian army has moved more than 6,000 troops to the Sino-India border following reports of Chinese intrusions in Bhutan.

Chief of Army Staff Gen. Deepak Kapoor said the reported intrusion of Chinese forces into Bhutan was a matter between the two countries, adding the Indian army has moved more than 6,000 troops to the border with China.

The shifting of army formations north of Nathu-La comes in the wake of reports that Chinese troops are coming close to the Siliguri corridor. The army authorities said Chinese forces had been coming close to the Dolam Plateau for more than two decades, as the boundary in the area is still to be precisely defined.

At last, some of our lazy Politician awake from their deep sleep.

HaHa yea a real wake up call for India for sure :china::chilli:

And what makes you think that? pls give some insight in your wishful imagination.

Geez, I was only joking, did you miss the "lol". Have some sense of humor. Nowadays, both China and India needs prosperity and growth, not war to sabotage each others growth.

Smile please. :enjoy:

Actually it is a normal move since troops had gone to Kashmir to boost the strength, and sometime back, it was decided as a part of the CBM to return the troops to their original location. (connect with my post on someone commenting that India was taking advantage over the turmoil in Pakistan and was about to attack Pakistan etc).

It is just that the Chinese came into the Dolam Plateau (which they do occasionally) coincided and the media, as is their wont, gave it a spin.

The power of the media thus cannot be underestimated.

So if I read the last line correctly, China simply keeps inching forward and gobbling up land permanently?

China tries to sabotage border roads
22 Dec 2007, 0116 hrs IST,Amalendu Kundu,TNN

GANGTOK: The Kunming bonhomie notwithstanding, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China is undercutting Indian Army's efforts to strengthen its presence on the border. On November 23, a week before the visit of defence minister A K Antony and chief of army staff Gen Deepak Kapoor to Sikkim, PLA soldiers unloaded boulders in an effort to wreck the construction of a metalled road at Fingertips, a strategic spot near Gurudongmar in North Sikkim. The area is close to the Kangra La pass bordering south-west Tibet.

Indian troops, however, swung into action the next morning, and removed the obstruction. The road construction — at an altitude of 18,500 feet — was completed on November 27. Chinese representatives, however, did not speak about the offensive at Fingertips during a meeting between army representatives from both sides on November 23. They also kept quiet on the bunker dispute at the trijunction of Sikkim, Bhutan and Tibet.

Significantly, prior to the Fingertips manoeuvre, Chinese troops had entered Indian territory and asked Indian Army personnel manning the border post there to stop construction of the road.
