India has learned to flirt with the world

Okay so everyone has watched that lecture by Mahbubani :D

Thanks for the share..

n why do u think they will help if they dont get something(political and/or economical) in return from a democratic nonaligned India.
i think India has reaped enough benefits from being non aligned, its time to move on.

What option do you propose than? If India were to move on from being non-aligned (the term lost its meaning already), which camp it should sit in?

Non-alignment was the policy of cold war. You either align yourself with USSR or US. With disintegration of USSR, the term lost its meaning. There is no aligning with one power or the other, as there is no other power bar US.

ideally both instead of sitting in none,,,if u get my drift;)

India is ideal for investment. One can get excellent returns on their investment in India. Thats why capital is flowing towards it. I find the political reasons being given as exaggerated. Making money out of their investments is more important for these countries than becoming friends with a powerful country.

This is what it originally meant. The problem was socialism, not the alignment, or lack thereof. India was dirt poor at the time of independence. Socialism/communism was most attractive idea to the leaders/masses that time, and reasonably so. All the lack of development stems from that policy. Chinese leaders realized it 13 years before Indians, while it took near bankruptcy to wake Indians up. Even than, the process is agonizingly slow. It is now that a government has a mandate, that it can speed up the process.

If the results were not so fractured 10 years ago, or ever since the end of PVN govt, the process would not have taken so long. The congress govt went through lot of reforms in 90s, but the no govt had the chance since.

True, it is not so much India, but others waiting for a chance and place to invest. Coincidentally it happens to be India.
