The closure of Pakistan’s air space in the aftermath of the Balakot air strikeshas resulted in India losing the hosting rights of the junior Davis Cup and Fed Cup, PTI reported.

A total of 16 under-16 Davis Cup teams, including Pakistan, were to travel to India for the annual competition, often dubbed as the World Cup of tennis. The junior Davis Cup was scheduled to be held at the DLTA complex in Delhi from April 8-13 while the Fed cup matches were scheduled from April 15-20.

“Pakistan’s air space was locked down at that time and airports [in India] were also on high alert,” an All India Tennis Association official was quoted as saying.

“No one knew for how long the uncertain situation will prevail. So, a consensus emerged that it’s best to shift the venue and India could host tournaments in future.”

Both the competitions will now be held in Bangkok, Thailand. The tensions between the two neighbours heightened after the Pulwama attack, where more than 40 Central Reserve Police Force personnel were killed.

India retaliated with an air strike, targeting a training camp of the outfit on February 26. Pakistan’s air space remains closed till date in the aftermath. The official in question said logistics became a big issue for almost all the participating countries.

“Since the air space was locked, the flights had to take a detour, which meant an increase in cost and more travel time,” the official added. “For instance, Kazakhstan would have taken three-four extra hours to reach New Delhi in the prevailing situation.

“So there was a discussion among the International Tennis Federation Federation, hosts AITA, Asian Tennis Federation and a few other stake-holders and it was decided that for the time being, it was prudent to shift the venue.

“It’s not that India is not a secure place but due to the uncertainty caused by the tension between the two neighbours, everyone felt that it’s a fair call to take the tournament somewhere else.”

When the ITF was approached for a comment, an official said, “I would like to inform you that the host nation decided to change the official venue to Bangkok. We were contacted by the ATF of the change in venu for the Asia/Oceania final qualifying event.”

When the All India Tennis Association was asked about it, Secretary General Hironmoy Chatterjee claimed that AITA failed to raise funds for the tournament.

“Raising funds for tennis tournaments is very difficult in this country. We had recently hosted the Davis Cup in Kolkata and now we are short of funds. The government also does not help so we informed the ITF that we can’t host it,” Chatterjee said.

When asked why AITA didn’t factor all this when the events were allotted by the ITF, Chatterjee said, “we were hoping to arrange funds at that time.

“You have to provide hospitality for these events. The stay, food, travel, everything has to be arranged for all players and officials. It’s a lot of money.”

It is learnt that it would have cost AITA about Rs 50 lakh to host the tournament and a part of the expenses would have been funded by the ITF.

India barred from hosting Jr Davis Cup, Jr Fed Cup

ISLAMABAD: India continues to face sports embargo as the International Tennis Federation (ITF) has barred the country from hosting Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup shifting the April event to Bangkok (Thailand) instead.

The ITF official Catherine Michie in a letter written to Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) confirmed shifting the event to Thailand instead of New Delhi (India) where it was originally scheduled.

“The Juniors Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Asia Oceania Final Qualifying event will now be held in Thailand instead of New Delhi (India),” the ITF communique said. The two leading boys and girls junior events would now be held in Thailand from April 8-20. The ITF has shifted these important events from India in view of the recent International Olympic Committee (IOC) decision not to allot any international event to India, till the time it guarantees visa facilities to all the participants according to IOC Charter.

The IOC Executive Board has already decided to suspended discussions with the Indian NOC and Government regarding the potential applications for hosting future sports and Olympic related events in India, until clear written guarantees are obtained from the Indian government to ensure the entry of all participants in events in full compliance with the rules of the Olympic Charter.

The IOC also recommend that the international sports federations neither award to, nor hold sports events in India until the country guarantees in writing to facilitate and provided timely visas to participants not matter to which member country the contingent, squad or player belongs to. The IOC Board also thanked member countries Olympic Associations and hoped to solve visa matter soon. “We thank you for your valuable cooperation in this approach and hope that the necessary written guarantees will soon be provided by the Indian government to resolve this situation for future events.

Lastly, in view of the numerous Olympic qualification events that are upcoming in 2019, we count on your valuable collaboration to monitor this issue across all competitions throughout the world, recognising that the IOC will maintain a strong position with regards to the participation of all athletes in competitions.”

Depriving India of hosting rights of the Junior Davis Cup is the result of that embargo.

The United World Wrestling (UWW) has already withdrawn international event’s hosting rights from India following the decision. The decision by the ITF to pull out the hosting rights of Junior Davis Cup is yet another blow to a nation that spares no chance to take political millage out of sports events.

Country interest is always first. We should continue closing our airspace for india.

New Delhi: The closure of Pakistan's air space in the aftermath of the Balakot air strikes has resulted in India losing the hosting rights of the junior Davis Cup and Fed Cup, a source in the national federation told on Tuesday.
A total of 16 Under-16 Davis Cup teams, including Pakistan, were to travel to India for the annual competition, often dubbed as the World Cup of tennis.

The junior Davis Cup was to be held at the DLTA complex from April 8-13 while the Fed cup matches were scheduled from April 15-20.

"Pakistan's air space was locked down at that time and airports (in India) were also on high alert. No one knew for how long the uncertain situation will prevail. So, a consensus emerged that it's best to shift the venue and India could host tournaments in future," a highly-placed source told .
Both the competitions will now be held in Bangkok, Thailand.

The tensions between the two neighbours heightened after the Pulwama terror attack in which more than 40 CRPF personnel were killed. The responsibility of the attack was taken by Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed.
India retaliated with an air strike, targetting a training camp of the outfit on February 26. Pakistan's air space remains closed till date in the aftermath.

The source said logistics became a big issue for almost all the participating countries.
"Since the air space was locked, the flights had to take a detour, which meant increase in cost and more travel time. For instance, Kazakhstan would have taken three-four extra hours to reach New Delhi in the prevailing situation.

"So there was a discussion among the International Tennis Federation Federation (ITF), hosts All India Tennis Association (AITA), Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) and a few other stake-holders and it was decided that for the time being, it was prudent to shift the venue.

"It's not that India is not a secure place but due to the uncertainty caused by the tension between the two neighbours, everyone felt that it's a fair call to take the tournament somewhere else," said the source, privy to the developments.

However, another official, who did not wish to be named, said that AITA has actually saved itself from trouble by agreeing to a change in venue because if the tournament remained in New Delhi, the federation had to plead with the government for the visa approval of the Pakistan contingent.

"If the venue was not changed, AITA had to ensure that Pakistan athletes are provided visas. And in prevailing situation, no one can give that guarantee. So it's wise decision by AITA to agree to the arrangement," the official said.

When the ITF was approached for a comment, an official said, "I would like to inform you that the host nation decided to change the official venue to Bangkok. We were contacted by the ATF of (sic) the venue change for the Asia/Oceania final qualifying event."

When the All India Tennis Association was asked about it, Secretary General Hironmoy Chatterjee claimed that AITA failed to raise funds for the tournament.

"Raising funds for tennis tournaments is very difficult in this country. We had recently hosted the Davis Cup in Kolkata and now we are short of funds. The government also does not help so we informed the ITF that we can't host it," Chatterjee told .

Asked why didn't AITA factor all this when the events were allotted by the ITF, Chatterjee said, "we were hoping to arrange funds at that time."
"You have to provide hospitality for these events. The stay, food, travel, everything has to be arranged for all players and officials. It's a lot of money."

It is learnt that it would have cost AITA about Rs 50 lakh to host the tournament and a part of the expenses would have been borne by the ITF.

Air India suffers major losses due to Pakistani airspace closure: report

The Indian national airline has so far lost over INR600 million due to the closure of Pakistan’s airspace, NDTV reported Tuesday.

Pakistan had closed its airspace on February 27, a day after Indian fighter jets violated Pakistani airspace. A day later, Pakistan shot down two Indian jets over Kashmir and a pilot was also captured. However, he was released by Pakistan as a “gesture of peace”.

“Air India flights travelling west can no longer fly through Pakistani airspace and need to swing south across Gujrat and then cut across the Arabian Sea to reach their destinations in Europe and North America,” the report said. Similarly, Air India flights to US have to stop at either Sharjah or Vienna to refuel.

The report termed Pakistan’s closure of airspace “disastrous” for Air India as the airline is surviving on government bailouts.

Pakistan's advice to India to maintain peace in the region fell on deaf ears of Hindu Zionists & now entire Indian population is suffering from consequences of Modi's misadventure against Pakistan. Now an excellent opportunity has presented itself for Pakistan to carve the consequences of this misadvanture permanently in Indian minds for all times to come by taking an honourable and bold stance (by keeping the air-space closed until Indian elections) until Indian govt apologizes for the surgical strikes drama & intentionally violating Pakistan's air-space & sovereignty.

we should be prepared for war as it seems that india is preparing its public for war and they are not bearing this loss for free there must be certain objective which they will try to achieve and it seems war
