IB deputy director shot dead in Karachi

KARACHI: A Deputy Director of the Intelligence Bureau was shot dead by unknown assailants in Liaquatabad area of Karachi on Saturday night, Express News reported.

According to details, unidentified assailants on a motorcycle fired on the officer, when he was going towards his house after parking his car, fatally wounding him.

Identified as Qamar Raza, the officer was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed hospital in critical condition.

Even as doctors administered treatment, he succumbed to his injuries.

Are these attacks due to personal enmity ?

It's Pakistan Internal Intelligence agency whose purpose is to monitor every type of activity going on and it's main area of working is intercepting communication and electronic surveillance. It does not have power to arrest people officially and deputy director is not a big officer. He was the DD of his unit working in karachi. Anyone who passes CSS (IAS of Pakistan) and posted in IB as DD and DD is grade 17 or grade 18 officer. The first grade allotted to person after he passes CSS.

The existence of IB predates the creation of Pakistan, as it was a part of the pre-war Intelligence Bureau of British India, and the present day IB was created from elements given to Pakistan upon independence
