Tests for sending India's first manned mission into space are in "advanced" stages with the Indian Air Force (IAF) developing necessary parameters for selection of suitable candidates.

The tests will need another year to get fully validated and the selection process of the people for the manned mission will begin after that, Director General Medical Services (Air), Air Marshal Anil Behl told PTI here today.

"There is a proper project. It is in the Institute of Aerospace Medicines, Bangalore, where we are doing all kinds of tests on how to put a man in the space," he said on the sidelines of a press conference.

Noting that the tests are already on, Behl said, "We started this project (to validate the tests) almost two years ago. It will take another one year more to be fully validated."
Asked to comment on the stage of the project, he said, "It is in the advanced stage."

"In any project the first stage is conceptualisation, then procurement of infrastructure and training of people. We have gone upto training of people," he said.

"Testing of the people who will be going into space will start after full validation, which has not started yet," he said.

IAF has been entrusted with the task of developing the tests and validating them by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The premier defence agency is also funding the entire program.

Asked when the selection process of the astronauts will begin, Behl said, "We are awaiting the government's signal."

He also said that the government has yet not decided on the number of people who will be selected for the mission.

Behl also noted that people selected for the mission could be from any branch of the armed forces, but a pilot will be preferred because of his familiarity with aviation and other necessary parameters.

1. you don't have the rocket that can carry such payload.
2. you don't have the rocket that can provide required reliability level.
3. you don't have the life support system that can reliably work for days.
4. you don't have the surveillance network that can provide enough coverage to support such mission's communication and navigation.

however, you do have the potential to:

1. contribute the first human satellite for the mankind, that is your candidate's body become an earth "satellite".
2. contribute the first in space manned mission explosion.

Hey troll what do you mean by "human satellite"??

Is it sending a man and forgetting about him so that he will revolve around earth :woot:

Like the unclassified missions China did before achieving success where no body knows how many humans lost their lives because of Chinese cheap copies..

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:.

you can always fully utilize your big mouth, however, that doesn't change anything.

India is doing the things in its own way why should we have to compare with Chinese as if they are the bench mark here.

If you want some body to cheer for China I am sorry this is not the right section. There are other sections in this forum, where you will find Chinese cheer leaders, go there :enjoy:.

Please don't reply to him mate, request u & other Indian members to just report him. It's really amazing to see a good thread to turn into a troll one just b'coz of one insecure member.

@topic Manned mission will take some years to turn into reality since there are both budgetary constraints ($2.3 billion) & technological constrains, but that doesn't mean that it is impossible, we have to make more launches like Chandrayaan-1 to get accustomed to the technological challenges faced by missions which are launched for space exploration purpose besides the usual satellite launches, mars mission, chandrayaan-2, aditya are on the cards & very much in developing stage.

Before we can launch a man in space, we have to stabilize both GSLV mk2 & mk3, but it will be mk3 that will be used for launch b'coz of high payload, the good thing for India is that both NASA & Roskosmos are willing to help ISRO & for many technological development for the program we will not have to start from scratch.

If in this 12th plan period, ISRO can successfully launch of GSLV mk2, mk3, Chandrayaan-2, aditya, mars mission, RLV-TD,etc. than i have no doubt about successful human spaceflight which can be launched post-2016-17.

IDIOT!! You're a typical Chinese half-wit with rotting brain cells! What do you mean by 'human satellite'?

Will the mods please take action against this jackass?

100% true.

Most importantly our indigenous cryogenic engine must be successful and Mk II must stabilize

There is ample information available on INDIAN SPACE PROGRAM give me evidence for ONE Point u have raised.

We dont appreciate BULL S.hit ....................Hope u dont use google translator to comprehend.

Without glsv, India should not worry about man space flight. Get one tech to work first before working on the next. If its working, with India's current multiprone approach to space exploration, GLSV would not be ready until 2017 as it can only perform limited launches per year. After, then human space flight is possible. My own guess would be earliest at 2020but could be as late as 2025

WTF is wrong with this A$$? Does he reflect the sentiments of the Chinese in general? I don't think most Chinese have plummeted to such depths. But there is no dearth of such turkeys as this obnoxious Chinese poster!

Mods must ban this buffoon!

For Christs sake...please explain this ... ''GLSV would not be ready until 2017 as it can only perform limited launches per year''

Prove yourself to be an idiot time and time again!!!

Your own guess??Do you know a thing about aerospace engineering?High thrust engines???

We are not talking about China here.. read the topic carefully before posting.
May be this would help.

Do you expect a chowmin maker to know such things.... :disagree:

I'm talking about getting the rocket ready. And it takes more than a few launches before sending a human. India does not have a human space program so this would take a while. when do you envision that India cansend a man to space.
