How ‘Gandhara’ Became ‘Kandahar’

This will become a troll thread unless of course trolls loose the patience and miss the part which has potential for trolling and dont read the whole article.

This was written by an Indian, what else do you expect?

There is no proof of people in Afghanistan being hindus before converting to Islam.

you should study proper history, not $h!tty history to know the facts.there was undisputed records that Afghanistan was dominated by Buddhists and Hindus...

Pre-Islamic period of Afghanistan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The original Indic population of Gandhara were displaced by series of invasions and the areas were populated by Pashtuns after the first Pashtun tribe crossed Suleiman mountains in 9th century. The modern Pashtuns have nothing to do with the ancient culture of those land.

you're right.it all started in the middle of 7th century, with Arab Invasion of Afghanistan and then demography changed.

But he was actually fighting against Kauravas. :)

yup,to avenge his father,Uncle(king of Gandhara) and his family.

The Janjua Rajputs were from Gandhara who were the founder of Hindu Shahi Dynasty.

Its true that original abode of many pashtun tribes was sulieman mountains but we dont the time at which they expanded towards other areas, it could be thousands of years ago. But yea KPK was colonized by pashtuns in 9th/10th century, from eastren afghanistan. First dilazak pashtuns settled in northren KPK ,who were important allies of mehmud ghaznavi, and after four centuries yousafzais invaded the areas of dilazaks.

The author is speculating. Bamiyan is in central Afghanistan, its buddist statues can not be used as example to prove that kandhar was part of gandhara. Kandhar's history is linked with persia. Gandhara was malakand-bajaur-peshawer-taxila, you wont find gandhara ruins beyond this region. There was kabul shahi hindu kingdom but hinduism itself didnt penetrated into afghanistan like buddism. That being said, i am no historian. My assessment might be wrong completely.

Gandhara expanded from Pothohar to Kabul river valley, Places like Kapisa and Paktia had Hindu history in the past, Kandahar is too far but I still wonder how it got that name similar to Gandhara. I have posted a map depicting regions of ancient India.

All roads lead to pakistan. Panjab,Sindhu, afghania, baluxhis, gandhara, mehrgarh all cradles of civilisation in subcontinent all in Pakistan....people are waking up to clever bhaniya revisionism

The Indus valley civilization was one of the greatest civilizations, but was not in India per say, it was neighboring Sumer and Babylon another greatest civilization, they were all near the middle east including one of the greatest of them all, the Egyptian civilization, So to say that the Arabs did not have a culture before meeting India is a big failure of the article above..
Anyone with an inquiring mind can look up the Arab Civilization before Islam, be it in Yemen, Jordan, Saudi Arabia or Iraq which was the fertile crescent civilization called Mesopotamia neighboring the Indus valley and influencing each other to some extent through exchange of knowledge..
All of the mentioned civilizations had astronomical knowledge, the most advanced was Egypt..
So, to pretend that the Arabs originating from the midst of the greatest ancient civilizations that the world had known, were ignorant or barbaric is nothing but a biased thought.. The Arabs after Islam were known to be very modest, so this attitude might have given the Hindus some wrong impression about the reality of the sons of the Mesopotamian and the Egyptian civilizations dating back to more than 12 000 years!
