One or two decades, everyone in China was very critical of the Chinese government and admired the western countries especially US, now the whole situation had changed especially among young people, cause now hundreds of millions Chinese, mostly young people, are able to study or travel abroad regularly and experience the western culture and their governance first hand. After first hand personal comparison, they realize how wonderful Chinese system works.

More like a toxic cocktail mix of 50 percent nationalism, 30 percent traditional racism and 20 percent anti west/east sentiment. Well, you call it chinese peaceful rise.

There are certainly nationalists among Vietnamese but you will seldom meet anyone with a mix of nationalist, racist and hates everything from the West.

Not sure if it is comparable, but China today is a little bit similar to Germany in 1920. They start feeling that they are superior than others (with the non-precedent achievement of China in modern history, of course the Chinese will have such feeling) but was mistreated and humiliated.

If CN can take control of SCS ( east VN sea), then she may defeat US in trade war, but they cant. Both US and Russia r there to stop CN.

China nation is never a war like one, our culture is always economic and development based throught our history, that's why all Chinese dynasties tended to build walls to protect them from what they called foreign barbarians, China just doesn't have the cultural and ideological base to become a Nazi Germany.

If you ask me, it’s a waste of time and money. Let’s say a young chinese studies at Chicago business school. He/she spends $100,000 alone for school fee. Excluding extra money is necessary for visa, housing, food and sex party. What’s the point for giving all then returning to motherland China just wanting to taste the West is evil?

It’s cheaper if you make some nice propaganda movies instead, similar to anti Japanese movies you produce en masse at home.

Chinese members on PDF tend to be more nationalistic than general populace, and there are plenty of nay sayers on Chinese social media actively opposing anything and everything that CPC does. So no, Chinese nationalism is nowhere near as high as you have read here, and Chinese are not about to match out and conquer the world.

International networking students develop at overseas studies is IMPORTANT.
Being able to gauge 1st hand how they fare against the elites of various nations help build realistic appraisals of themselves.
Decades ago, Asians were led to believe Europeans were superior but on having close working relations with them have found it not to be true.
The Western powers took pains for decades to conceal the fact that many of their achievements were aided by the Chinese.

Chinese Gaokao is very difficult, not every test taker can land a spot in a Chinese university, so if you or your family has money, you can skip Gaokao and go to study in a foreign college, a win win for both the government and the students whose school sores are not that good.
