Hillary Clinton Coming to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is arriving in Pakistan today (Wednesday) to discuss issues relating to security, the war on terror, Afghanistan and other bilateral matters with Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership.

This will be Hillary’s first visit to Pakistan, wherein she will meet President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and the country’s military leadership.

Sources said enhanced market access for Pakistani goods, energy cooperation, enhanced US investment, equipment required for the war on terror and additional economic support will be on the agenda for talks.

During the meetings with Pakistani leaders, the US secretary of state will be briefed on the country’s efforts to eliminate terrorism and the military campaigns in Swat and South Waziristan.

The debate on US aid through the Kerry-Lugar law and the army’s reservations on the conditions attached to the US security assistance will also be discussed.

Pakistan is also expected to voice its concerns about India’s involvement in Afghanistan and Balochistan. Hillary will also lead the US in strategic dialogue with Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
