High Speed Spanish Train To Take Trial Run On Delhi-Mumbai Route Soon

This is unconfirmed news, but here is what i'm hearing on what TALGO has offered India. Please note that the Indian train will have several modifications (primarily owing to track layout, OHE design (Tension, sag etc) and signalling).
Part 1/2
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Railway board in its CT-20 report submitted in November 2009, asked for increasing speed of LHB Trains to 160 kph based on use of singular or MUed 5400 HP WAP 5 locomotive and 18 coach LHB stock. Accordingly simulation studies were done and it was found that with single WAP 5 running at 160 kph, a saving of 1 hour and 10 minutes could be achieved.

As we can see savings could be even higher, if 2 x WAP 5 configuration is being used @160 kph.

Accordingly railways tested MUed WAP 5 configuration on New Delhi Panipat section was done in 2012 successfully and speed certification was given for 160 kph travel.

However, Railway board expressed that Train protection and Warning System (TPWS) be installed on routes upgraded to 160+ kph. This system is already in operation in Chennai Gummidipundi section, Kolkata Metro and Hazrat Nizamuddin Agra Cant (Shatabdi 160 route).

Around 1500 RKM are in various stages of TPWS installation.

With some additional engineering changes such as track side fencing, strengthening of bridges and turnouts, speed increase upto 160 kph and beyond is well within our reach. Only question is that of time, but with continued budgetary support, this should not be far away.

Part 2/2

TALGO Spain has pioneered development of multi voltage and multi gauge High speed Trains (Restricted to 250 kph).
TALGO has offered India TALGO 250 trainset. The train can run at speed range of 160-250 kph (Please refer to part 1 of this writeup to understand 160 kph value).

the train can run in single or two multiple unit configuration, with provision of First class and ordinary Seating arrangements.

The train has an axle load limit of 18 tons per axle and is well suited for Indian Tracks.
Whats more ,this technology is available in hybrid mode as well (With Diesel engine), so HST services can be introduced on Non electrified tracks as well.
If these become successful, it will become a major part of IR plans to introduce HST on select sectors without need for investing in extremely cost intensive Bullet Train concept.
Talgo has expressed its willingness to manufacture in India for domestic and export requirements.

PS: My apologies for answering in 2 parts, but there is an 8 image per post rule (@waz @WAJsal Sirs can we do something about this?)

For 90% of the passenger lines this sort of semi-HSR makes the most sense. For the "bullet trains" entirely different lines of dedicated track will have to be set up in line with the very specific requirements of true HSR. De-linking the two is optimal and ensures that the IR as a whole network (and consumer as a result) is moving in a very healthy direction.

The IR is progressing by leaps and bounds of late and it is encouraging to see.

Speaking of fast trains, this is how fast JR's Shinkansens are.
btw the Green and white livery E5 Hayabusa/Hayate series has been offered to India fro Mumbai Ahmedabad route.

Mr Prabhu, working really hard to give IR a new life. here is the recent development, new coach from RCF Kapurthala with sliding door for high speed transit(200km/h) is ready for trial. Kudos to this govt.

NEW DELHI: Gearing up to run trains at higher speed, railways will this month unveil modern coaches equipped with automatic sliding doors and electro-pneumatically assisted brake system to assist in operating at 200 kmph speed.

Manufactured at the Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala, the first consignment of four high speed coaches - two AC chair cars and two Executive Class - are being readied to travel to the capital before March, said a senior Railway Ministry official.

Each coach is estimated to cost about Rs. 3.25 crore as against the Rs. 2.5 crore for the normal coach.

The official said the coaches are equipped with latest technology like stainless steel brake disc, sintered pads and electro-pneumatically assisted brake system to run at a higher speed.

Besides, the entrance will have automatically sliding doors like Metro coaches and better dust, sound and heat insulation system.

He said the third major modification in these coaches involves improved and wider inter-car vestibule area between the coaches, which will help reduce dirt and water ingress besides reducing noise level.

A total of 20 coaches will be manufactured at RCF out of which four are almost ready and the rest will be delivered in June this year as announced by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in his last budget.

The new initiative involves manufacturing a rake of 20 coaches which comprises 14 AC chair cars, 3 Executive Chair cars and 3 Power cars.

Other features which are incorporated in these 200 kmph coaches include improved passenger safety and comfort. The coaches will have aesthetically pleasant interiors with spacious and ergonomically designed seats.

There will be provision of personal infotainment system in coaches also.

Each coach will emphasize on safety, and will have fire retardant furnishing besides fire and smoke detection alarms.

The lavatories of these coaches will have redesigned interior and equipped with vacuum evacuation assisted toilets.

The plush interiors will have touchless fittings in taps, hand dryers and soap dispensers besides marble finish and anti graffiti coating on walls.

The coaches carry colour scheme based on Cheetah, the fastest animal known for its vitality, and has been developed in association with the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.

In coming decades india will need all three services:
1> Semi-HSR: For low income passengers (140-160 kmph) subsidised one for caste/religious politics
2> HSR: For medium-upper class of passenger ( 160-200kmph)
3> Bullet train : for traders/commercial/elite class (300+ kmph)
