Besides guarding Maritime Frontiers, Pakistan Navy & Pakistan Maritime Security Agency remains on front to protect seas from pollution. Exercise BARRACUDA planned from 2 - 4 December 2019 is one such effort to rehearse control of possible oil spillage at sea. Various foreign & local stakeholders will participate in the Exercise.



 
The 10th edition of International Exercise Barracuda formally commenced at the Headquarters Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) today, with an impressive flag hoisting ceremony. The ceremony was attended by 24 observers from 11 friendly countries and officers of Pakistan Navy and PMSA.

The flag hoisting ceremony was followed by an opening brief of the exercise at a local hotel in Karachi, where State Minister for climate change honorable Zartaj Gul was the Chief Guest .Observers from 11 friendly countries and delegations from various national stake holders also attended the opening brief where aims and objectives of Exercise Barracuda-X were highlighted. In the second session of the opening brief scholarly papers on environment protection and Search and Rescue at sea were presented by speakers from National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA), National Institute of Oceanography(NIO) and PMSA.

Earlier, during the first day of exercise, the foreign observers had interaction with Director General PMSA Rear Admiral Zaka Ur Rehman, who welcomed and thanked them for their participation in the exercise. DG PMSA also highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to curb pollution at sea and reiterated Pakistan Maritime Security Agency’s resolve to fight marine pollution.

International Exercise Barracuda-X is a Marine Oil Spill exercise and is aimed at enhancing capacity and proficiency of national stakeholders to combat the menace of pollution at sea. Twenty four observers from 11 Countries along with national stake holders including Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Air Force, PMSA, Port Qasim Authority and Karachi Port Trust are participating in the exercise. The international participants of Exercise Barracuda-X include Bahrain, China, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Maldives, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka and Turkey.

The exercise Barracuda X will be conducted in Karachi and sea from 2nd to 4th December 2019.

Turkey participates in oil spill exercise in Pakistan

Turkey is participating in a marine oil spill exercise in Pakistan which kicked off on Dec. 3 with a flag hoisting ceremony.

The exercise -- dubbed as Barracuda -- will run through Dec. 4 in the Arabian Sea, a statement from the Pakistan Navy said.

The impressive ceremony was attended by 24 observers from 11 countries.

This is the 10th edition of the exercise, which aims to enhance capacity and proficiency of national stakeholders to combat the menace of pollution at sea.

Other participating countries include Bahrain, China, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Maldives, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Sri Lanka, the statement concluded.

what Zartaj Gul is doing here..

Zartaj Gul is a Pakistani politician who is the current Minister of State for Climate Change, in office since 5 October 2018.

Entire purpose of exercise is to protect the environment from Sea Pollution which in this case is oil spillage in sea.

Sea phase of International Exercise Barracuda-X was held at sea. Director General Pakistan Maritime Security Agency Rear Admiral Zaka Ur Rehman graced the occasion as Chief Guest and witnessed the sea phase of the exercise onboard Pakistan Maritime Security Agency Ship PMSS Kashmir.

Air and Surface assets of Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA), Pakistan Air Force and other national stakeholders participated in the sea phase of the exercise. During the Sea Phase drills of containment of oil spill, search and rescue operations and anti piracy were demonstrated and witnessed by twenty four foreign observers from 11 countries and representatives of national stakeholders. The foreign observers applauded the efforts being put in by all the stakeholders specially the efforts of Pakistan Navy and PMSA to fight any disaster at sea.

While speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest lauded the endeavors of Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Maritime Security Agency for conservation of Marine Environment and to contain disasters at sea. He appreciated coordinated efforts of all stakeholders and thanked foreign observers for their participation in the exercise.

At the end of exercise an impressive fly past and skim past by air units involved in the exercise was also demonstrated.
