EXCLUSIVE: Indonesia Gets In Line For India’s New AEW&C Jet

Indonesia is a third world country, too poor to afford a proper, working jets so they settle with crap, flying coffins made by an even poorer country that is india.

Its the poor who need to help each other!
We would be honored to provide any help we can.

I hope that just like ISRO, DRDO and other PSU's will give tough competition to foreign contractors......AWACS is very important for IAF and we need a lot of them for both China and pakistan.....2-3 should be reserve...

Sorry for necroning old thread, but I've just read elsewhere (forgot where) that Indonesia Air Force seek to acquire between 2 - 4 of this AEW&C planes.

Does the radar & data link has been tested in high intensity opposing jamming environment? Especially against those jamming systems operate by China?

Is there any other platform (bigger platform) that has been certified to carry the radar? (other than C-295 which is too small for Indonesia requirement)

Why would you want a bigger platform for this system!
Our more capable radars for bigger platforms is under development.

Bigger platform mean increase range and it can carry more computing power along with the onboard supporting infrastructure (particularly cooling system).
Although Embraer EMB 145 platform is currently suffice for Indonesia Air Force requirement, any option for bigger platform such as B-737 (with more onboard computing power) will be great selling point.

If you notice Indonesia defense procurement, they mostly share the same requirement, and that is "range". Indonesia is 3100+ nm West-East and 1000+ nm North-South and that is a lot of area to cover, which is why the KF-X / IF-X iteration for Indonesia doesn't even have internal weapon bay because it was repurpose as conformal fuel tank.

What other platform does DRDO currently developing for the radar?

It doesn't need any additional computing power. I'm sure extra fuel can be managed with a slightly different variant, although I don't think it's necessary. This is a system for a small aircraft. Another aircraft will also unnecessarily complicate the integration.

Next development is of course 360° AWACS. It'll be integrated on A330 and the aircraft will double as a tanker. The radar is reportedly complete.

Contrary to popular believe, AEW&C these days is more about having extra computing power onboard and the accompanying thermal management system (cooling system)

Is the radar will use EL/W-2090 or different system? A330 MRTT is great choice

On the side note, Saab has already demonstrate Globaleye for Indonesia Air Force, however it's ability to also function as maritime surveillance making it not only too expensive but also risky (putting all the eggs in the same basket), furthermore the GaN based nature of the Erieye radar is going to pose additional technical challenge to operate in tropical environment.
So far DRDO AEW&CS offer the best value for money

EL/W-2090 is a separate project for us, to be integrated on Il-76 like our existing AWACS, but stuck due to inflation in both aircraft and radar prices.

A330 radar will be home made like the one on Netra (the name for the one you're looking for).

Btw, as for range, it's capable of aerial refuelling:
