Eurosam offers to cooperate with Polish defence industry - Thenews.pl :: News from Poland

24.12.2014 14:23

The European anti-air missile manufacturer Eurosam has proposed to cooperate with Poland’s defence industry if successful in securing a missile defence tender.

The “Wisla” (Vistula) shield is worth PLN 16 billion (EUR 4 billion). It is the anti-ballistic missile component – and arguably the most important part – of Poland’s defence shield plans.

Two companies have been shortlisted for Wisla, including Eurosam which is co-owned by the Franco-Italian MBDA defence firm, and France's Thales company.

Eurosam is offering a number of Aster-30 surface-to-air missiles, which have an operational range of up to 120 km.

Eurosam signed an agreement with Poland’s Military Armament Company (WZU), planning to produce missile launchers and transport vehicles at WZU’s Grudziadz factory.

According to WZU’s management, the company has plans to continue cooperating with Eurosam in the long term.

Eurosam had previously announced an agreement on potential cooperation with the Polish Defence Group and Poland’s PIT-Radwar, involving the transfer of knowledge such as advanced missile-simulation technology.

Didier Philippe, MBDA senior vice-president for Europe, commented that the company “will transfer important and useful knowledge, which will enable Poland’s defence industry to develop full autonomy in the field of missile defence systems. The country’s defence industry does not currently posses such capabilities.”

The other finalist, US group Raytheon, has already made a similar offer of cooperation by signing a letter of intent with Poland’s WB Electronics. (sl)
