New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has told his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani that all issues between the two countries can be resolved if the trust deficit could be eliminated, Parliament was informed today.

Making an identical statement in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on the Prime Minister's visit to Bhutan where he met Gilani, External Affairs Minister S M Krishna said Singh had conveyed India's "serious concerns" over terrorism emanating from Pakistan and sought expeditious action against the perpetrators of the Mumbai attack.

The minister could not read out the statement in Lok Sabha and laid it amid the din caused by members who were targeting Telecom Minister A Raja in the 2G spectrum issue.

In the Rajya Sabha, members wanted to seek clarifications on the statement but Ministers of State for Parliamentary Affairs Prithviraj Chavan and V Narayansami said it could be done either on Wednesday or Thursday.

In the statement, Krishna said Singh had a cordial and frank discussion with Gilani.

"He (Singh) told him (Gilani) that if the trust deficit between India and Pakistan can be eliminated all issues can be resolved through dialogue," Krishna said.

Quoting Singh, the Minister underlined that good neighbourly relations between India and Pakistan were in the interest of both the countries as well as in the interest of the peace, stability and development in the region.

Singh urged Gilani to expedite action against perpetrators of Mumbai attack and was assured that Pakistan was serious about bringing these perpetrators to book.

Krishna said that the Foreign Ministers and Foreign Secretaries of the two countries have been entrusted with the responsibility to work out mechanisms on how the trust deficit can be removed.

End trust deficit to solve issues: PM to Gilani

Give up the illegal occupation of Kashmir and stop stealing our water and problem will be solved.

MATE....legally it is u who have illegally occupied Kashmir...so giv it up..the problems will be solved.

Your PM thinks that its 'trust deficit' that is problem where as that is not the case and if you cannot give up Kashmir and theft of water then the main problems remain unresolved.

Other that this it'll be another long 'tail chasing' session which is a waste of time.

Our PM is just playing to the galleries(world) with these type of announcements to show india is serious abt resolving this issue.
But apart from that i can assure u no action will be taken on the ground as anything other than 1)converting LOC into IB or 2) getting back P-O-K
will be considered as succumbing to Pakistan and considering the number of lives lost in wars, terrorism etc and consequently a definite political suicide for Congress for ever.

Your foreign minister stated two days back that India is not taking away your water. Your water problems are due to mismanagement. So please consider that.

There is no question of giving up Kashmir. If you want to justify sponsoring terrorism by using Kashmir then look again in your history over recent years. That approach is now killing your own people several tims more than they are killing Indians. You should also consider the direct impact on your security and economy of the approach that you are hailing over here.

Its Pakistan who is missmanaging it.

Water problem now solved. Your FM says that your authorities are mismanaging the water. There we go. Debate ended and we are absolved.

I once read on this forum a suggestion by and Indian to end the dispute over Kashmir. The suggestion was that "you return Pakistan to India and we give over Kashmir to Pakistan" Stupid but funny in its own kind of way
