Emirates & Sri Lankan Miss Major air disaster in India!!!!

Eyewitnesses said a major air tragedy was averted at the Thiruvananthapuram international airport here yesterday when a Dubai bound Emirates flight took off and a Sri Lankan Airlines flight from Colombo landed in the same runway within a minute.

The Emirates flight EK 521 with 241 passengers took off from the runway 32 at 11.10am as scheduled to Dubai while the Sri Lankan Airlines flight UL 161 with 154 passengers from Colombo landed in the same runway at 11.11am.

However, the airport authorities dismissed the accounts saying both planes had operated on schedule.

Although flight landing and taking off from the same runway at an interval of one minute is nothing new in major airports, take-off and landings in the same runway and that too in an interval of one minute are not common.

"Eyewitnesses said the Emirates flight took off in the nick of the time and hence the Sri Lankan Airways flight was saved from crashing into the Emirates flight," an airport official said.

"At 11.10am, the Emirates flight took off normally and at 11.11am, the Sri Lankan Airlines flight with 154 people landed normally. May be those who saw the incident were taken aback and the news went around," said Chandramouli.

"In busy airports like Mumbai, the gap between a take off and a landing is less than a minute.
"Anyway, an inquiry would be launched by the director general of civil aviation and if there is a fault, steps would be taken," he said.

Thank god air tragedy was averted!!!!

India should suspend air traffic controls!!!!

The job of an ATC is a thank-less one. I have personally talked to to operators who have had the misfortune to juggle between 2-3 aircrafts at a time with no one around to assist. Its never a pretty picture.

Why are things being blown out of proportion for sensationalism? The gap of one minute was quite sufficient which means that both aircraft were more than 5 km apart, not wing tip to wing tip!

Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the busiest in the world by aircraft movements, has on an average 1.8 aircraft per minute either taking off or landing. And that means a gap of just 2km between two aircraft.

So what's the big deal here? Nothing to get alarmed about. Move on......

i am suprised trivandrum still has an international airport. though kochi was enough

Actually Kerala has 3 international airports (mainly due to the high number of expats)...Trivandrum, Kochi & Calicut with another one planned at Kannur. Trivandrum also serves South TN.

You will again surprised to know that one more international air port is coming up in Kannur.

So it is like - TVM - Kochi - Calicut - Kannur then Manglore airport for Keralites...

You should let the planes fly in with no air traffic controllers;)

Could be interesting to say the least.

Yeah, fix some turn indicators, brake lights and hand signals and pilots will sort out their problem among themselves.:partay:
