Eid-ul-Azha: Over 10 million animals sacrificed across Bangladesh​

Dhaka division had the highest number of animal sacrifices this year, says the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock

This year, a total of 10,041,812 animals were sacrificed throughout Bangladesh during the holy Eid-ul-Azha.

Notably, there was a substantial increase in the number of animals sacrificed this year, up by 91,049 from the 9.95 million recorded last year, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock said in a press release on Friday.

According to the ministry, Dhaka division had the highest number of animal sacrifices this year, while Mymensingh division had the lowest.

Based on the data received from the field, 2,548,184 animals were sacrificed in Dhaka division, 2,051,777 in Chittagong division, 2,132,469 in Rajshahi division, 949,581 in Khulna division, 430,673 in Barisal, 394,039 in Sylhet division, 1,149,187 in Rangpur division and 385,902 in Mymensingh division.

Out of the total number of animals sacrificed, 4,581,060 were cows, 107,875 were buffalo, 4,849,328 were goats, 502,307 were sheep and 1,242 were other animals.

In the Dhaka division alone, 1,171,217 cows, 6,480 buffalo, 1,267,595 goats, 1,02,016 sheep, and 876 other animals were sacrificed.
In the Chittagong division, 1,229,062 cows, 87,214 buffalo, 641,978 goats, 93,181 sheep, and 342 other animals were sacrificed.
In the Rajshahi division, 711,000 cows, 9,469 buffalo, 1,231,000 goats, and 181,000 sheep were sacrificed.
In the Khulna division, 270,219 cows, 1,492 buffalo, 652,731 goats, 25,123 sheep, and 16 other animals were sacrificed.
In the Barisal division, 276,635 cows, 989 buffalo, 151,564 goats, and 1,485 sheep were sacrificed.
In the Sylhet division, 199,172 cows, 1,153 buffalo, 172,074 goats, and 21,640 sheep were sacrificed.
In the Rangpur division, 536,720 cows, 269 buffalo, 546,357 goats, and 65,833 sheep were sacrificed.
In the Mymensingh division, 187,035 cows, 809 buffalo, 186,029 goats, and 12,029 sheep were sacrificed.

This year, the total number of animals appropriate for sacrifice throughout the country was 12,536,333.
