“Workers are instructed to Murder anyone who returns without changing the system” Qadri
ISLAMABAD August 12th 2014 – Amid strong disapproval in Pakistan and fright of legal action in Canada, Qadri, leader of Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) Monday retracted his Sunday’s statement in which he had ordered his workers to kill anyone who returns without completing the “revolution”.
These were his exact words:
“Anyone who returns without Inqilab (Revolution) should be killed”
“Workers are instructed to Murder anyone who returns without changing the system”
“Workers should break the hands of anyone who resists their March”
Killing and Murdering instructions were televised live by National Media, However instead of acknowledging his mistake, Qadri blamed a section of the media for misquoting him.
His words made headline saying “Jo baghair inqilab wapas ayay usay shaheed kar diya jay” which means “anyone returning without revolution must be martyred”. Yet another Urdu daily carried the headline “Jo bi inqilab ky baghair wapas ayay usay qatal kar do” which could be loosely translated as “Kill anyone who returns without revolution.”
Foreign newspaper also contradicted Qadri’s fresh claims. Saudi Arabia’s largest English-language daily newspaper said: “No one will return till the government is toppled and the system changed,” Qadri told his workers and asked them to take a pledge by raising their hands. He went on to the extent of saying that ‘if anyone comes back before changing the system he too be martyred.”
Independent analysts believe Qadri could be prosecuted in Pakistan and Canada for hate speech and incitement of violence.
In the same speech he also urged his followers to avenge the martyrdom of their colleagues by killing those who they believe were responsible. This is not the first time PAT chief has got himself in hot water for contradictory statements.
One of his most popular videos on social media shows how he changes his statement according to the nature of audience. The video shows Qadri addressing a conference of Islamic scholars and claiming credit for the country’s blasphemy law. However the same video shows Qadri expressing total indifference towards the blasphemy law while talking to a western TV journalist.“I had nothing to do with the blasphemy law as it was formulated by a dictator General Zia-ul-Haq,” he told the western journalist.
In a latest News Conference PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri denied having said that those who desert his ‘revolution march’ should be “martyred. Addressing the media on Monday, Qadri contended that he had cracked a joke about himself and PTI chief Imran Khan.
Tahirul Qadri’s agenda is civil war, said Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal speaking to media outside parliament on Tuesday.
Iqbal said the government would not let Pakistan become Iraq or Syria, countries which have been plagued by ongoing civil wars.
The federal minister added the government would not let Qadri’s agenda be successful.
Legal experts are now discussing the issue of Hate Crime and incitement of violence by a Canadian citizen in a foreign land and questions have been raised in Pakistani Canadian community that Can Qadri be prosecuted in Canada for hate speech and incitement of violence? Why has Canadian Government given a Canadian citizen a long leash and not taking any action?
