Dockyard & Engineering Works Ltd (DEW) launched two new Sobuj Bangla class Inshore Patrol Vessels (IPV) named BCGS Apurbo Bangla (P 207) and BCGS Joy Bangla on 3rd September for Bangladesh Coast Guard based on the Padma class design under a contract signed on 6th June, 2017. Another IPV is also under construction at DEW. Their design and construction is supported by China Shipbuilding and offshore International Co., Ltd. (CSOC). They were ordered as part of the Bangladesh government's plan for expansion of the Bangladesh Coast Guard.
The enlarged IPV II are of 52.8 metres long, 7.4 metres wide, have a 1.9 metres (6 ft 3 in) draught and a depth of 4.05 meters with a displacement of 297 tonnes. The IPVs are powered by two German DEUTZ diesel engines which can produce 2,240 kW (3,000 hp) driving two shafts for a top speed of 23 knots (43 km/h; 26 mph). They have a complement of 45. The ships can carry out operations at a maximum range of 1,500 nautical miles (2,800 km; 1,700 mi).
