each generation of fighter costs more than the last.. this is universal not just for India Airforce .

40 vs 14 is not a generational difference.

"Generation" is nothing more than a subjective word. In the end its all about a platform's capabilities w.r.t its cost.

Welcome to the reality of technology and particularly high end aircraft. Shall we start comparing the cost of the P-51 Mustang to the F-22 Raptor? What can anyone really learn from such trivial data?

HAL LCA Tejas Mark I costs $26 million or Rs. 162 Crores - Where did you get that 44 million stuff? LCA is one of the economical aircrafts in it's class - and why the heck a third generation fighter jet is being compared to a fourth generation one? And please do share the source of these stats you are providing...
HAL pegs price of Tejas fighter at Rs 162 crore | Business Standard News

HAL is a harem of lying incompetant bozos. They pegged the price of a HAL licence produced Su-30MKI at 22.5 million while CAG blasted HAL for their unit cost which is over 70 million dollars, much more than the import cost. 44 million is the cost pegged by HAL critics. When CAG finally pulls HAL's pants down, what we will see is a lot more than 44 million dollars.
That is from BR site which i cannot post in this forum. It's not letting me post and giving me a warning or something.
The figures are pretty reliable and have seen it many times before as well.

Did the Raptor replace the P-51 squadrons?
Quite absurd logic. The only reason there is such a jump between the MiG-21 and what is to replace it (the LCA) is because the former (MiG-21) has remained in service WELL past its originally intended lifespan and its replacement (LCA) has taken longer than expected to enter service and has also mutated into a far more refined all-rounder than was ever intended. In most airforces there would have been a fighter in between the MiG-21 and LCA purely because of the vast amount of time the MiG-21 has been in service. So naturally there will be a considerable jump (in both the cost and capabilities) between a 1950s-era machine and a late 90s/early 00s machine.

Lol..so it becomes absurd logic. The fact of the matter is MiG-21s are going to be replaced by the LCA. The Last MiG-21s were only made on the late 80's. With an average of 25 year Airframe life that's well within the life span of the fighter. And the further 10 year extension given 10-yr breather: MiG-21 can fly 1,000 hrs extra - The Times of India it is certified to be operational for sometime in the future as well.

And #2, what is this considerable jump which you speak of? Is the BVR even integrated with the Tejas? Let alone integration, has it ever fired a BVR missile till date? What radar is it going to use and what is its range? What is its turn around time? A MiG-21 has one of the least turn around times for fighters. Does it have a HMS/HMDS and integrated? All the stuff I mentioned here, the Bison already has it! It even has a G-rating less than the MiG-21!!

And #3, this is a fighter which is supposedly going to be used as a front-line intercept fighter. How on earth is it going to intercept an enemy fighter with a max speed only Mach 1.6? What is the point of a fighter when it cant even reach the battle before the enemy completes his mission and scoots into his airspace?

All this and HAL will give this fighter with no less than $40 million a piece, regardless of what nonsensical figure they sprout out. Their track record will make sure of that and CAG will make sure to expose it.
