With new coal power plants being set-up espcially in Karachi, air quality and heat are going to get worse. Has there been any consideration of this reality?

I was looking at Canada, where the province of Ontario gave up ALL coal power plants for gas and nuclear power plants, renewable and biomass. Air quality got so bad that had to do it

Pakistan is stumbling into even more issues below, and it doesn't seem to be in the interest of the nation

Look man burning coal is good for Pakistan. Main problem in Pakistan is energy and many people are dead because of energy shortage so we can burn coal and achieve a balance.

But the people of Karachi was screaming against plans to build nuclear power plant near Karachi as well, they also cry of higher electricity prices and shortage of electricity. Anyway plant more trees, stop dumping waste in rivers, lakes and sea, stand up to support building new dams in order to correct the mistake of screwing up nature.

because they have gas...can u give us gas

Coal burning is ok if we can run 90% of power plants on Coal then we won't have big import bill

india china are using coal power plants and pakistan is effected since last 30 years then why not we do it ourselves . if anyone have issue plant every month 20 trees

It looks as if Dawn along with many others do NOT want Pakistan to succeed.

anyhoo how many threads are need for this? One can easily propagate anti-Pakistan propaganda just as good in existing threads @

and

Imported coal (gas and oil for power generation) is okay but domestic coal is not? Even when Power stations would be located at the Pit-mouth?

@ OP how the (imported) gas-fired any better for Pakistan than (domestic) coal-fired?
also do gas-fired not produce heat and or emit sulphur?

P.S. No-one said a dicky bird when Pakistan was using or/was going to use imported coal for power stations

If it is up to Dawn Pakistan should just seize to exist and not be consuming anything.

Go for nuclear plants. Non polluting but require large investment and fuel supply.
Also clean coal plants are now the rage , also sulpur content is important in pollution. What quality of coal is pakistan using ?

The world is getting of them but in Pakistan corrupt & commission eating politicians are installing coal based power plant.

Pakistan can be home to world largest solar energy & wind mill energy but there is no honesty with Pakistan as corruption & massive commissions come first for corrupt & treacherous politicians.

Are you an oil baron or something else?

do windmills and solar panels grow on Pakistani trees, there just for the picking?

Burning coal is absolutely dangerous, Do you know the waste byproduct of burning coal for energy has huge environmental implications. Pakistan diminishing greenery will be gone forever.

India has been burning coal for decades and reaping the economic benefits whilst the wider neighborhood has been polluted. Pakistan might as well join the party especially since oil and gas prices are on the way up again.

Isnt it coincident that it was just yesterday when first news came out of successful excavation of coal from Thar?
