Chinese tycoon who criticized Xi Jinping's handling of coronavirus jailed for 18 years

Then why was he not arrested and tried before he began heavily criticizing Xi?
Who knows. Maybe he started criticizing the gov after the gov started auditing him. Or maybe the gov started auditing him because of his criticism of the gov. Does it matter? Chinese gov officials don't make a big salary. The fact that he's a billionaire is a red flag for corruption.

Foreigners should not pretend to know more about China than Chinese do.This will only make you silly and ridiculous.

Ren is a real estate developer. He was known for his bold rhetoric a decade ago. When Xi began to rein in the property bubble after 2015, Ren repeatedly voiced his displeasure publicly. Rumors have been swirling since 2018 that he was under investigation for corruption.

Ren was a CCP member.CCP had warned him not to make overheated remarks about property policy. In China, too, public opinion of him is polarised . Some people regard him as a bold businessman.Others saw him as a corrupt capitalist. He famously said that houses should be too expensive for most people to afford.

In a so-called democracy, Ren gets almost no punishment. But in China, no rich man is above society. Many western business practices are serious crimes in China. It's just that some acts cannot be prosecuted because of loopholes in the law, only to improve the law to prevent future crimes.

Western governments and the media are controlled by the rich, and China's actions certainly seem evil to them.

No fatty, I don't have time to worry about this guy. He's not important to me nor is he my boss.

Hey-now, who you calling fatty, lol. I'm in the gym 3 times a week. No fat on those days, at least, guaranteed :)
You say, he is not important, you don't care about him, then what forced you to comment about him in a negative manner- wu mao?

Let's gather what you have told us in your post to justify his jail time. These are your words to justify his jail time of 18 years.

1. He criticized the CCP more than once. Criticizing once, you may get away, but do it multiple times, and the CCP is justified to put you in jail
2. Many rich businesses and founders are corrupt once they attain big success. In china unlike in a democracy, they held accountable based on public statements made about governance
3. If a successful company head says something inappropriate like ' house should be unaffordable,' they are corrupt and deserve jail time
4. A rumor of being corrupt is known. In China, convicting someone is a secret; no public explanation is available.

Man, this is some level of brainwashing to accept such bizarre laws, where you get convicted based on criticizing.

Wu mao, everyone who questions your government is corrupt in china. Oddly, he was not corrupt on his way up to making billions of dollars. Only AFTER he questions the government's response to coronavirus, he suddenly becomes corrupt.

Then they have brainwashed citizens like you to go along. This is why folks outside of China know that China has faked the numbers of its COVID deaths

He also drank water, and I think he was being punished for drinking water.Western media should really pay attention to the problem of Chinese people being punished for drinking water.

Everyone arrested by CCP drank water. Why didn't the Western media find such a distinctive feature?
