China, Thailand agree to increase defence industrial links - IHS Jane's 360

China and Thailand agreed on 23 December to step up defence industrial collaboration as part of an increasingly close partnership.

In meetings in Beijing between Chinese premier Li Keqiang and Thai prime minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, the two leaders said they would look to enhance bilateral collaboration in strategic areas including defence, trade and investment, information and communication technologies, and aerospace.

A statement added that China and Thailand would expand co-operation in defence industrial areas as well as military exercises, military training and education, and regional security and anti-terrorism activities.

In terms of the defence industry, efforts are likely to be channelled into Thailand's continuing programme to develop and build multiple rocket launcher (MRL) systems based on Chinese technologies.

I can forsee Thailand slowly turning to China for its military hardware as continue escalation price of western military hardware while Thailand slow economy grow will tightened the military budget.
