China eyes enhanced ties with Bhutan | Business Standard

A top Chinese diplomat has met Bhutan's Prime Minister Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay in a bid to enhance ties with the country with whom China has no diplomatic relation.

Wei Wei, Chinese Ambassador to India, called on Lyonchhen at his office yesterday.

During the meeting Lyonchhen told the envoy that people and the government of Bhutan value and attach high importance to its relations with China, an official statement said.

The Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction on the growing cordial relations between the two countries and said that the people-to-people exchanges contributed significantly to the development of tourism, trade and other areas of shared interest.

The Ambassador thanked Lyonchhen for his views and said that his country also respect and treasure the friendly relations with Bhutan.

Wei said that he placed high hopes on enhancing cooperation and strengthening friendship in all times to come.

Wei also told Lyonchhen that Bhutan and China share common aspirations and he looked forward to working in close consultation with Bhutan on issues of mutual interests and concerns.

Everyone wants to get close with us. It's impossible to ignore China now. Our power and influence is growing at a staggering rate that within 20 years we will become the number 1 global power.

Great to see that China is going to lead the world again.
