China has finished building a 195 km-long undersea pipeline, the longest of its kind in the world, in the South China Sea. The pipeline will support a gas field in the western part of the sea, and is expected to transport natural gas to South China after it goes into operation. Each steel tube measures 80 cm in diameter and weighs 12 tonnes. The pipeline lies some 100 meters below the water’s surface. China's first indigenous deep-water pipe laying crane vessel, Haiyang Shiyou 201, carried out the project. The completion of the project took more than five months."

Undersea Natural Gas Pipeline Network

The South China Sea is 3.5 million square kilometers. It is larger than India (3.3 million square kilometers).

China has completed its first 195 km undersea pipeline for South China Sea natural gas.

However, this is only the beginning.

Undersea pipelines are connected into a network for the efficient extraction of offshore natural gas. By adding new undersea pipeline extensions to new natural gas fields located further in the South China Sea, China will ultimately access every natural gas field in the South China Sea.
