Caste System as a Form of Social Stratification, understanding India

caste system is matter of only few decades now .

I think in urban India it will vanish in a few decades completely. But rural India ? I have my doubts. Let's hope for the best. Economic development and education are the only solutions.

Caste based discrimination is certainly illegal. You cannot restrict people to certain professions/roles/duties based on their caste which was the original purpose of the caste system. So yes, that is illegal in India.

Caste based discrimination is illegal in India and not the Caste system, which is an intrinsic part of Hinduism.

This is like trying to end one anomaly by creating or treating it with another anomaly...still very much practiced and observed in India, lots of things declared illegal in India are practiced...

In smaller towns and villages, about 60% of India, Caste functionality is part of daily lives.

No Caste varnas, no Hinduism...

Do you mean it Hinduism is a matter of few decades.

Enlightened monsters...

Or benevolent monsters...

It only limited to now few villages area is UP, Bihar, UT and jharkhand...

No one care most of other states in India and it will go from villages in coming year's

Varna means colour not caste. It had been wrongly translated to deepen the social divide created by upper caste Hindus.

In Hinduism there are only four colour classification of humans according to the nature of work they perform in the society. Which was nothing to do with birth in a particular family.

In few decades this caste system is bound to vanish with spread of knowledge and wisdom. Upper caste has lost most of the control of the society which they enjoyed for centuries.

How do you delegate duties to different people based on the color of skin, has to be a caste based discrimination...and even if it is to be believed Varna means color, it translates into actual social role as caste based Varnas...

Although every Hindu must follow general moral codes, each has individual duties according to his or her own nature. These are called sva-dharma, literally “own duties.” They are regulated by the system of four varnas (social classes) and four ashrams (stages of life).

You cannot declare something illegal which is a part of a religion. However, discrimination practiced on the basis on that is illegal. That is what matters in the end. Without the discrimination, the caste system remains in name only. However, unfortunately, socially many people still discriminate. Many get caught and are punished by law. Many don't. As education and economic development increases it is reducing at a social level too.

I am not going to take lessons in discrimination from somebody that comes from a country that legally and constitutionally discriminates against its minorities. Social discrimination being a whole different topic.

India is being ruled by upper caste hindu establishment only .. No one can reach higher ranks in establishment until he/ she is from upper caste ... PMs etc are just puppets of this small elite ..

it is same in other societies except western white world ,
arabis are higher than indian ,pakistani muslims . they will not marry desi muslims .
pakistani syed will not marry lohar or teli muslims ,
same in the muslims of bangladesh
it is in society though it is not islam .
honour killings take place in pakistan india for marriage out of the caste .

These lessons are not from me and not for you, it is a universal truth. You have the luxury of brushing everything under the carpet...and two wrongs doesn't makes one right.

And it cannot be justified as such, you can move on as per your wishes...

Caste system cannot vanish in Hindu India, it is intrinsic to Hindusim...it is just that caste based discrimination and prejudice will not be that visible as a social norm, in places of work, in jobs, in public areas, colleges and universities.

And some people won't be wearing the caste on their sleeves, and showing their higher caste and of the other lower castes as a rule and not as an exception will be down.

But when in comes to marriages and religious practices this will remain till eternity.

It is far fetched that a higher caste Brahmin girl can be married out of the caste....so in all practical purposes it will remain, the visibility will be down, just as now in urban India.

Caste system is illegal in India. Though it is so deeply rooted in society because of being practiced for thousands of years that it is still widely practiced socially. However, in the major cities, it has reduced a lot.

How caste be practiced for thousands of years when the british created in 200 years back ? :cheesy:

"Varna" comes from "Var" + "rna". "var" which means CHOICE and "rna" means "Debt". So "Varna" is the debt of your choice and paying that debt becomes your Dharma.

Colour is "Ranga" or "Ranjyathi".

There are no "colors" in Hinduism, but three GUNA or Quality.

Person's Varna depends on the combination of these qualities.

Correction. Caste system is not illegal in India. Discrimination based on caste is illegal. However, enforcement of this is minimal.
