For short range purposes, both are deadly, both have different variants of rounds to fire, but Carl Gustav RR wins the contest as it has more engaging range.

As someone who has fired the carl gustav, I can tell you it is very heavy!

It is rear loaded with a rifled barre, making it significantly more accurate.

However, both are ancient weapons. Time for a new POF to come up with an entirely new weapon.

The development of more powerful explosives means smaller, lighter warheads means a smaller round will have the same power.

I suggest a weapon that is rear loaded with a rifled barrel, but smaller calibre then the carl gustav (84 mm), making it lighter.

RPG 7
Modern Firearms - RPG-7 antitank grenade launcher

Carl-Gustaf M3/M2
Modern Firearms - Carl Gustaf antitank recoilless rifle / grenade launcher

Additional bit on ammunition:

Notice that several countries use the Carl Gustaf.
They also use other AT weapons at section level, eg AT4, and hence the CG is used as a support weapon not a primary section weapon.
Besides the AT4 some still use in addition the 66mm M72 LAW.

So it does come down to what is the weapons intended use. If the CG is part of the section, then that ties up 2 men, one to lug it about the other lugging the ammunition, and not much of it at that.
In a mech inf or motor inf setting the vehicle can carry the CG and necessary ammunition as an additional support option while the section itself carries a 1 man AT weapon.

In some situations the CGs ADM (flechette) round has big benifits

Again horses for course.
Does India use any other type of 1 or 2 man AT/RPG weapon?

apart of carl gustav India also uses :

106mm RCL M40
Milan-II,
9K11 Malyutka
9K11 Fagot,
9K113 Konkurs

I prefer the RPG over Carl Gustav for its successful and massive use since its production.

The RPG and its variants have been mass produced like the AK. All major parts are interchangeable in case of severe damage. It's a proven, cost-effective and deadly platform which has seen action in almost every major conflict of the 20th and 21st century.

Mostly common warheads used are HE and HEAT, and specialised warheads are available in illumination, smoke, tear gas, and white phosphorus variants.

Apart from its conventional AT and AP role, RPG has also been used somewhat as an Anti-Aircraft rocket, proven deadly for low-flying helicopters.

RPG-29 has also proven deadly against modern MBTs such as Merkava and M1Abrams.

The newer RPG-30 will take the newer generation of tanks head on with its unique ERA penetrating technology which was unveiled in 2008.

both weapon cannot be directly being compared.

Carl Gustav is more of a RCL(recoilless rifle).it is crewed by 2 people and has broader application than just anti-vehicular role(like bunker buster, anti personnel, firing flarem, ane even anti ship role).while RPG-7 is more of a LAW system(although it also has limited anti personnel role, depending to the warhead)

many country acquire both(as well as ATGW) system to counter enemy armour.both are desingned to complement, rather than comtete, each other

Hi,
As antitank weapons both are useless, their only use is against lightly armoured vehicles and bunkers. It would be better to go for newer rpg variants that have much higher penetration than either rpg-7 or carl gustav.

really?

both also have tandem warhead introduced to counter newer generation of armour.

both system has being upgraded over time and are good, inexpensive system to operate

Hi,
Yes it is true that there are tandem warheads but their level of penetration is nowhere near that of newer rpg variants with 105mm rocket. Further they both have limited range. But most armies continue to field them as they are cheap and can still take out light armour and older t series tanks, as these are the most common threat a soldier faces but if u want to out a modern tank like m1a1 or t-90 u better have something better.

600+m(for carl gustav) is quite far for an unguided anti tank weapon

and it is rarely to see only one round being shot to defeat a tank.in chechnya(first conflict,to be precise) ,for example, the rebel have fired up to twenty RPG-7 round to knock down russian armour(which comprised of T-72 and T-80U)

RPG-7 also saw success against american and israeli armour

Hi,
Both the conflict's u mentioned involved urban fighting where the ranges are small and possibilities exsist for firing multiple shots, but here we are talking about the needs of PA and in indo pak scenario any wars will be fought mainly in desert where the possibility for ambushes is low as it is mosty open terrain, most of the mbt's will have infantry cover, so the chances of getting close with out being detected is low in such a scenario your every shot must count, that is why i prefer newer rpg's which have close to 1000mm penetration. But in COIN operations as in FATA& SWAT rpg-7 id good enough.
Regards....
