OK, I see many people, specially Muslims, discussing , rather "mental-masturbating", that how war on terror has caused U.S trillions and how Al Qaeda/Taliban have successfully "defeated" the mighty U.S etc etc..

This thread is a reality checker..sorry to break your hearts...but we haven't lost anything even slightly near to called as "much"...

War on terror has caused the deaths of millions of Muslims...destruction of two Muslim nations...havoc in Pakistan and Yemen etc...a total disaster for Muslim world. How can, then, someone, specially Muslims, claim that U.S lost the war? We just lost ~ 5,000 soldiers in TEN YEARS of wars in two countries...We spent VERY LESS on this war ...This is the point many don't take into account...

Yes, U.S has spent 1 trillion on the war...but for past ten years, U.S is only spending just 1% (or even less) of its GDP on the war..which is actually VERY,VERY CHEAP. U.S spent 35% of its GDP at the height of WWII.

During Vietnam war, U.S spent 2.3% of its GDP at the peak of the war and also lost a whooping 60,000 of its troops. Now compare this to Al Qaeda's war...

Even Vietnam war was 10X more lethal for the U.S and our economy, but yet we only came out of that war stronger. What makes people think that U.S is "falling" now?

Actually, war on terror is probably THE CHEAPEST war U.S has ever fought..

Cost of major U.S wars throughout history- fas report :azn:

Sorry, but our enemies should not "mental-masturbate" that Al Qaeda has inflicted some heavy damage on the states..or that U.S is falling because of this war, or that U.S is losing this war etc..Some people like Michael Sheuer are there to do exactly this propaganda in U.S media. They will tell American audiences "Omg, Al Qaeda is big danger..U.S is losing the war" , which only pumps Americans more to fight! So this serves CIA a good propaganda purpose..but many people see such videos and feel "happy" that U.S is facing trouble, whereas U.S is just chillin.....Reality is that U.S is just getting many jobs from these wars and profiting while hundreds of thousands of Muslims are being killed also. (Sorry for the last line, but harsh truth).

Sorry average Muslims should work AGAINST Al Qaeda that is only hurting Islamic interests and nothing more...

Dude..you did not understand that with your WOT...you might have engaged in a cheapest war as per your post...You made yourself as an enemy against big segment of Muslim society in this world...who is thinking US as an enemy of Muslims....I think that perceptional impact is more harmful to the interests of US than the actual costs involved in the war....

:blah:
sooo in its cheapest war US can't even controll full Afghan Area...
your soldiers use dipers and your own nation is against this war....
America in these 10 years can't control terrorism and in this cheapest war you are in big debt.....
5-6 Nato members withdrawn before and 2-3 are getting their Armies back...
and you call yourself winners???
ask mama baby....
you attacked Iraq with lame excuse and got nothing dude....
and here in Afghanistan you seriously are stuck....
now if anyone think he won then keep dreaming...
your economy is destroyed in this soo called cheapest war and your soldiers are mentally facing problems....

It is not the cheapest war.

Look at America's economy before the war, and after the war.

Before the war, America had a big trade surplus and not much debt. After the war, America has the world's biggest trade deficit, and $15 trillion in national debt. Which is more than the rest of the world combined.

Our national debt is not $ 15 trillion but $16+ trillion but it is not dangerous because;

1) We control the world money (dollar. We can print as many as we want..we just need enough paper haha).
2) Most of our debt is to ourselves. China owns a VERY small part of it.

Can you explain how $16 trillion is a danger to the mighty U.S?

Also, our deficit/debt didn't increase due to war only. The war itself is the cheapest war we fought. It is just that by the sheer luck, banking crisis hit the U.S during the time of this WoT being fought..so everyone think "Oh, Osama got America in trouble" , which is just bulls!t.

True enough...

There was definitely a large contribution from the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as a sizable contribution from the Credit Crunch.

But going all the way from massive surplus to massive deficit, and from low debt to $16 trillion debt, that didn't happen overnight. The WoT was one factor among many factors.

Allow me to address some stuff here:

1) Islam doesn't allow attacking civilians. Whoever did that, wasn't really a muslim. SO, the WOT, isn't really against the muslims. It is against people who 'call' themselves muslims BUT are far away from being muslims, per Islam's commandments. So, the WOT isn't against the muslims.

2) When you attack someone's home, you should know that the party that got attacked, will use whatever means they could, to teach the attackers a serious and historical lesson. So, the invasion on Afghanistan was a result of it. PLUS, it did serve a BIGGER purpose. It got rid of the terrorist's strong holds, financials and facilities. Breaking the back of these organizations is winning half the battle. The rest half is to take as many of them out as possible so their ability to launch operations is broken.

3) If the US wasn't in Afghanistan, these terrorists would've started to move hundreds of thousands of their suicide bombers towards Pakistan and India (and wherever they could reach, including the west). I'd rather see 10 suicide bombers killed in a cave them killed on the streets of Pakistan, India, China or in Europe. Because if they got there and blew themselves up, they'll kill a LOT of civilians. So in a way, the world owes a thank you to the US.

I know a lot of people in Pakistan think that they are getting these suicide bombings, etc going in their country because of supporting the US. My question is, what you are seeing is the 5% of these terrorists that couldn't be killed by the US forces. Imagine no 911 and no Afghan war.....in 2015, you'd have 200 K to 400 K of these read to go suicide bombers....if Pakistan said no to anything they wanted it to do....where do you think these guys would end up at? In Pakistan!!! Right now, you guys are having such a hard time dealing with a few dozens of these bad guys. Imagine 100 thousand of them???? They would CRIPPLE the country and bring it to a standstill. Not to mention, then they'll go to India and China. If ANYONE denies this, they need to be put on medication. These idiots would cause a nuclear war at some point if not stopped immediately. So 911 was a sad day for the American public. But it may be a reason why the US had to go to Afghanistan and get rid of SOOO many terrorists so they won't attack anyone. Resulting in, saving lives. There is NO such thing as negotiating with the terrorist. They will come back and kill anyone they want to, for their agenda. So always be mindful of that. Terrorists love to kill, that's why they are terrorists. They are not politicians that can negotiate a 'peace deal'.

4) Costs are not an issue for the US as the US got attacked and involved into the war without asking for it. If the financial crisis wasn't ongoing since 2008, the costs would've been ok long term. But this is a matter of principle and the world peace. Terrorists are terrorist and they need to be taken out.

5) Muslims shouldn't be thinking that the US is against them. There are 10+ million muslims who enjoy a great lifestyle in the US. Make more money and have better careers than a lot of other people living here, due to focus on education and on business. PLUS, the US has given billions to help people in Pakistan, Egypt, Iraq, Afghanistan, India, African muslim countries, and other poor countries etc. You can't discount the goodwill of the US to help others due to the fact that the US reacted to an attack on its soil.

NO NATION gives more to poor countries and helps others than the US. Plus majority of the muslim countries enjoy VERY good relationships with the US. I am sure there are times when it doesn't seem like it, but its true also. Take a look at Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Egypt, Pakistan, the UAE, etc, etc.

SO PLEASE close this thread. Muslims in American are doing great. And Muslims elsewhere don't really blame the US for their issues. If any country does that, it's their politician trying to make the US look bad in front of their limited audience and that's everywhere. In India, Russia, China, everywhere there is a segment of population that wants to blame the US for everything!!!

It is not the cheapest war.

Read my other post above this one. If the Financial meltdown across the globe wasn't going on, the wars you are referring to, wouldn't have a whole lot of impact. The US's PPP, GDP, etc are still one of the highest if not THE highest in certain cases. We have to be worried about the debt as a responsible nation and that's why we have debates about it. It's not a concern that impacts us nationally or our GDP or economic standing. We were, are and will ALWAYS be the land of opportunity!!!

You obviously did some poor calculations here.

Yes, U.S has spent 1 trillion on the war...but for past ten years, U.S is only spending just 1% (or even less) of its GDP on the war..which is actually VERY,VERY CHEAP. U.S spent 35% of its GDP at the height of WWII.

1 trillion is not 1% of the US GDP, 1% of US GDP (current est. 15 trillion) is 150,000,000,000 (that's 150 billion). Do you have any idea how much 1 trillion is of US GDP? It's ~7% of US GDP, not 1% or less.

Besides, 1 trillion spent on the War on Terror is a conservative estimate other sources put the total cost at 2.5-3 trillion which would mean 16%-20% of US GDP!

The War on Terror has been very costly and US has wasted a lot of money in Iraq and Afghanistan, money which could have been used to improve the standards of living in this country and to build mega-infrastructural projects which would bring many American cities into the new century.

.

Well, I calculated in terms of "per year". In last ten years, U.S mainly spent ~ 1% (or less) of their GDP every year during last ten years of this war.

Read the link I gave...

1. Dollar is not made out of paper. It's made out of cotton.

2. Your so called "facts" are totaly wrong. USA has not spent 1% of it's GDP on WOT.

3. All Muslims do not speak ill for the United States. I wish well for all Americans.

You may be right as i have limited knowledge about the facts that you have presents...But again, my perceptions are created about impression of Muslims about USA from different social forums and in particular to PDF...So i respect opinion of argument of both sides...

No matter how much USA lost No matter what was the cost of war,

USA made one point very clear to OBL and his supporter, "If you scratch USA, USA will get your ball out and throw you in Indian Ocean"!

Mission accomplish for USA. I like American and Israeli stand on terrorism, God only knows when India will learn .
