First, INSAF is 5.56, not 7.62mm(don't know they have 7.62 type)

How come a carbine replace a 5.56 rifle?

. .
The article says 7.62mm INSAS. And we are replacing a rifle with a carbine? Wtf?

The reporter is trolling us !

If its true i have my doubts that someone is getting a kick back in the deal.

why would they replace a locally manufacture, low cost rifle with a SMG...when we know BSF role is border security where long range AR is required.

The Border Security Force personnel are all set to get Beretta guns imported from Italy which will replace their old 9mm carbines. The Union government has already imported 34,377 Beretta MX 4 storm carbines.:yahoo::sniper:

The BSF was formed in 1965 and since then the guns have been changed twice. Initially the BSF used to have 303 rifles. It was replaced by SLRs and 10 years ago, Insas rifles replaced SLRs. Today, BSF jawans are guarding the border with the latest 7.62mm Insas rifle.

According to BSF sources, many battalions of BSF in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Northeast area have got the new Beretta carbines.:cheers:

IG, BSF, Rajasthan frontier, PC Meena confirmed that a few Beretta guns have been received but the proper supply is yet to come.

It is being said that a team of BSF had visited Siti Beretta factory at Brescia in Italy on August 2011 and inspected these carbines. Although some problems were found in carbines supplied at Gujarat and Northeast, the complaints were investigated and the company changed 550 carbines. Now the BSF is totally satisfied with Beretta carbine.

FACTUALLY INCORRECT POOR JOURNALISM

INSAS = 5.56mm
SLR = 7.62mm

MX4 as, its called is a Carbine it cannt replace INSAS a SMG. Both have different roles and ranges.

What do you think is more likely - that the BSF would replace its assault rifles with these glorified pistols, or that an Indian journo has written another stupid article? Think about it.

Tusky and Udai Singh were the only arms agents present on all four days of the BorderSecurity Force (BSF)'s weapon trials held between May 17 and 20 at their facility in Bhondsi, Uttar Pradesh. Officials present at the trials remember Bhupinder plying BSF officials with beer and soft drinks during the trials. On February 14, 2011, Delhi's defence circles sat up and took notice of him. Beretta signed the mha contract worthover Rs.200 crore for 34,377 carbines. Tusky was now in the big league of arms dealers such as Suresh Nanda, named by CBI as an agent in the Barak missile deal, and Mohinder Singh Sahni, also named by CBI as the agent in the Krasnopol guided munitions case.

The contract surprised everyone for the speed of it execution. It had taken less than three years from contract to delivery, unusual for India's lethargic bureaucracy. The National Security Guard (NSG), for instance, is yet to get helmetsor bulletproof jackets it has tendered for after the Mumbaiattack. The contract saw multiple controversies and complaints from rivals, sayingthey had been unfairly ejected from the trials. The bsf went ahead with the orderdespite detecting defects in 2,374 carbines of the entire order in February this year.
INDIA TODAY sent Beretta a detailed questionnaire about its relationship with Bhupinderand Udai and the defects that emerged in thetender. A spokesperson responded: "Beretta is bound by the 'confidentiality clause' with Indian authorities. We bagged the Indian Government's contract after participating in a tender process in which we figured on top."

They won't place a multi million dollar order because they got a few free drinks. Stop trying to manufacture scams where none exist.

We cannot hide behind and pretend all is well.

Please use your brain. That is an anti Indian military blog set up to look like a real blog about the Indian military. Go to their homepage and find out if there is any piece of writing there which is not a blatant anti India hatchet job. It is a Pakistani website set up and run by Pakistanis, and has been exposed in many websites including BR.

I have seen that SMG in the hands of IA for quite some time along with INSAS, not a replacement for sure. Poor journalism i should say.
This is a replacement not for the INSAS but the present 9mm carbines that are more than half a century old!
