Star Online Report

Biman Bangladesh Airlines today resumed its direct flight on Dhaka-Manchester route.

With 269 passengers on board, a brand-new Dreamliner 787-9 took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital around 12:55pm (local time) for Manchester after more than seven years.

It will be 17th international destination of the national flag carrier.

State Minister for Civil Aviation M Mahbub Ali inaugurated the flight at a ceremony and greeted the passengers at HSIA.

Biman will operate the flight to Manchester, Britain’s major northwester city that hosts approximately 90 thousand Bangladeshi expatriates, on every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary M Mohibul Haque, Biman’s Board Chairman Air Marshal (retd) M Enamul Bari, Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mofidur Rahman and Biman’s Managing Director and CEO Mokabbir Hossain also spoke at the inaugural ceremony.

The government has been purchasing brand new aircrafts and opening new routes to upgrade the standard of the national flag carrier, the state minister said.

“We have also taken various measures to improve customers services of Biman Bangladesh Airlines,” he said.

Biman will soon resume its New York flight and begin Toronto flight, Mohibul added.

Biman temporarily suspended Dhaka-Manchester route in September, 2012 due to shortage of aircrafts.

Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner has total 298 seats including 30-business class, 21-premium economy class and 247-economy class.

If only they would update their dogshit website with a completely overhauled new one with these profits.

Regardless though, it's a great news.

Biman needs to put in some flights for birmingham as well.... for london increase daily flights to higher higher frequency. Uk will easily be able to sustain daily flights from 3 english cities without any issues.

Biman needs to also reinstate atleast flight to and from rome or milan to serve BD european diaspora. They all have to come to london and fly on or change in one of the middle eastern hub. If this not possible in the short term atleast enter into partnership with someone to transport BD diaspora to middleeast hub and then take them home.

BD if run properly is a goldmine

Many years ago, I noticed that in order to get more passengers BIMAN had to choose (probably) the London-Rome-Jeddah-Dhaka route. It was probably to offset the operating loss from the London-Dhaka flights. What was reality?

I am unaware of this so can not comment.....Emirates, qatar, gulf, saudi and many other is undertaking daily London to BD routes. It is not conceivable that Biman can not make it work. Demand is there but the public wont accept poor service, they will simply use the the likes of qatar.

Biman needs to be serious and can quite easily make UK and european routes profitable......the same can also be said regarding flights to US and canada. BD diaspora will enthusiastically support Biman but at the same time Biman can not compromise on quality or service.
