In the recently concluded COP-26 climate change conference the Indian government under Modi essentially said that other countries should let India "develop itself" and only then India will think about making a climate change redressal effort and that too by 2070 - 50 years from now. Let us remember that India is among the top three polluters in the world, the other two being China and USA.

You seem to have heard it wrong, India committed to become net zero carbon emitter by 2070, which is a BIG deal for a developing country the size and population of India considering all other small and developed and less populous countries which have been polluting the world since industrial revolution of mid 1800s aimed to achieve it by 2060 only a decade earlier. He never said that India would start taking steps to curb pollution only after 2070 lol.

I didn't say "after", I said "by".

Carbon is just one element of pollution but how will India become a zero carbon emitter by 2070 ? What exact steps ? And why not now instead of using the excuse of other countries to delay it by decades ? If Modi thinks he can tell his followers to walk the good path let him do this simple thing within India :
