Home Minister Rajnath Singh has come under fire in Beijing for comments made earlier this week stating that India had "culturally controlled and dominated China" for 2,000 years.

Speaking at a tourism festival, Singh was highlighting the attractiveness of Indian culture and referring to the spread of Buddhism from India to China.

Quoting Chinese scholar Hu Shih, Singh noted that Hu had observed that India had, through Buddhism, "culturally controlled and dominated" China "without sending a single soldier". "That is the effect of India," Singh was quoted as saying.

The remarks haven't gone down well in Beijing.

"It is inappropriate to use the phrase 'culturally control and dominate' as culture simply integrates with each other, and China, as a country with a great civilisation, hasn't and will not be 'controlled or dominated' by any culture," Hu Zhiyong, a scholar at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, told the Party-run Global Times.

Zhang Yiwu, a Peking University professor, added that while "it is true that Buddhism originated from India, the religion thrived in China after it was localised to make it better adapt to the Chinese society".

"Buddhism has little to do with contemporary India, whose mainstream religion is Hinduism," the Global Times wrote.

Zhang, the professor, added that Singh was "merely trying to boost national pride and there is no need to overreact to his speech". That did not, however, stop the media and experts from dubbing the minister as "inappropriate".

Humans tend to claim they own/dominate/have a connection to an entity that they feel is worthy and superior when compared to themselves. It's normal human psychology.

E.g my surname is Lee and i often like to think of myself being genetically-related to the Tang emperors(which may or may not be true).

Hence- the minister's inferiority complex is strong

When Buddhism spread to China, more than 80% of India's population was Buddhist.

India totally do not understand diplomacy. As home minister and speaking in an official event you represent the government. What you say represent what the government says.

Nice trolling Home Minister Rajnath Singh ji ...:enjoy:
Funny, Nepal is part of India? Delusional Hindus spewing shit like always. Go back to drinking holy cow piss:lol:

LOL Though Buddha was born at a place which is in Nepal now , but Buddhist religion was born in Sarnath , Bihar India where Buddha got enlightenment .So yes, India is the birth place of Buddhism.:victory:

It's stupid anyway, Buddhism make up 10%-15% of China's religious beliefs so idk wtf is "culturally controlled and dominated".

China is rooted in Confucianism, not Buddhism. Chinese culture: social norms and values, writing system, music, clothing, food.... are distinct from Indian subcontinent. Religious practice is only a subset of overall culture. And Buddhist are minority.

Hu Shih quote is adulterated, no diplomat would use words like "soldier and conquered." Indians are well known for fabricating stuff and ludicrous claims. Just goggle Vedic or Hindu invention.

They really don't have any idea about china.Even Buddhism itself in china has transformed so much to adapt to the chinese culture otherwise it would be wiped out by the emperors

In chinese buddhism :
☆Spiritually is Buddhist....
☆But in way of life still Confusianism philosophy...

So there is combination on it...
Not pure Buddhist from outside...
Thats why Buddhist can live in harmonious in Chinese society....

I dont know other religion in China...

Lol this rajnath singh is another idiot.

India never conquered China spiritually for thousands of years.

Where is his brain, in the shitdump?

First, vast majority of Chinese are antitheists.
Second, even if there are some Buddhist influence, does that mean Saudi Arabia and Palestine control the whole world??
What a idiot, no wonder India is such a backward country..
