The Bangladesh women’s cricket team beat Pakistan by 43 runs in the first of two ODIs at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday.
Lata Mondol cut through the Pakistani top-order, taking 4-35 in eight overs to help dismiss the tourists for 109 in 44.1 overs and give Bangladesh a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Jahanara Alam took 3-22 in 10 overs.
Pakistan fell to 63-8 after 23.1 overs, and only a late 40 off 86 balls from number eight Asmavia Iqbal Khokar prevented them from being bowled out for double-figures. Earlier, Bangladesh were sent in to bat after losing the toss and were bowled out for 152 in 49.3 overs. Rumana Ahmed scored 44 to lead the side, and wicketkeeper Nuzhat Tasnia scored 26 to help the side keep going after Rumana’s wicket left Bangladesh at 100-6. Shaila Sharmin added 22.
Qanita Jalil took 3-26 for Pakistan, who appeared to have the upper hand after reducing the hosts to 64-5 in the 25th over, but they ended up allowing more runs than they would have expected and never threatened the target after their early batting collapse.
The teams will play the second ODI in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday before meeting at the same ground on Saturday for the opener of their T20 tri-series with India ahead of the World Twenty20
