ICC published their annual updates on Tuesday, discarding the results of the 2012-13 season.
While all the points earned in 2015-16 were taken into calculation, the points of 2013-14 and 2014-15 have been halved for each team.
Ninth-placed Bangladesh were 29 points behind the Caribbeans before the latest update.
Bangladesh had 47 points where West Indies had 76. But Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Co, who now have 57 points, are breathing down the West Indies (65) who dropped some points.
Australia (118) consolidated the topspot stretching their lead over second-placed India from two points to six.
Pakistan (111) rose one place to third and are snapping at the heels of their arch-rivals India.
South Africa (92), however, have suffered a huge drop after shedding 17 points, slipping from third to sixth in the ranking.
