Bangabandhu's Men - on August 15 and After

I'm sure if Mujib was alive today, I'm sure he'd be sorely disappointed in the way his daughter is handling things.

Of course ! I read somewhere he didn't think Hasina has any wit .

No, it was the CIA who provided covert backing.

Raw too knew but kept silent as they my thought a nationalist leader like mujub would be difficult for them to make Bangladesh their Clint state . why we forget he is the man who ask the indian army to leave Bangladesh though American and Soviet pressure also there. He also participated in OIC summit defying india .

All the king's men story, I being a saposha Bangali got no stake in it. One single article mentions almost everyone's name who tasted the highest position of Bangladesh within last 40 years :coffee: .

a well deserved end to a traitor, a back stabber. I would have liked hime to suffer a long painfull death while his family was murdered before his yes slowely an dpainfully just like the way he caused murder of so many of his own countrymen.

My he and all his offsprings to come live a miserabl elife and rot in hell after death.

chill bro, Include Bhutto and pakistani generals also in your prayer!! It was Mujib who won the election , a democratic election which was held under the authority of West Pakistan Generals!! as per newton's law every action has equal opposite reaction, Mujib was the reaction of Pakistani action!! Thats another topic already discussed thousand times!!

How about Yahya Khan? He died just a drunkard with millions cursing him. He is another Meer Zafar Ali khan. He should have talked with the politicians of both wings about a possible confederation between the two wings when the war broke out. Instead, he went to such a distance that there was no point of return. Sk. Mujib was in the west Pakistan jail, but, he never cared to meet and talk to him about the country's future. His role, along with that of Z.A. Bhutto were dubiuous in nature.

Dr. Kamal Hossain was also in the west in his father-in-law's house during the war waiting probably for an invitation to meeet and talk with the President. But, treacherous General Yahya wanted to divide Pakistan, but, with an Indian intervention so that people would blame India and not him or west Pakistan for the resulting division of the country. However, he blamed Bhutto for the war and division after his fall from power. He did not blame Sk. Mujib for the outcome of the war.

By the way, whatever was or happened to the dubious Rakhi Bahini? Weren't supposed to protect Mujib? :what:

Yes, they're really fierce when talking, but when it came to action, they went the say of similar very-fierce-in-slogans-and-useless-in-action forces, like the Intelligence forces of Hosni Mubarak and Ben Ali, Saddam's Republican Guard, etc.

In the end, the truth is that no autocratic dictator can ever have security when the masses finally wake up.

As I recall Yahya Khan did in fact meet with Mujib on several occasions and even came to Dhaka .......

Is it true that Mujib promised to give Yahya a post in his Government before the election and after the election he denied which pissed yahya off and Bhutto took the chance???

Right up to the last moment Bhutto was trying for a two Prime Minister solution but this was obviously impractical.

Yahya Khan arrived in Dhaka

Syed Badrul Ahsan

President Yahya Khan arrived in Dhaka on March 15, 1971 for talks with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the rest of the Awami League leadership. On his team were senior military officers of the junta as well as civilian members of the administration.

The head of state was escorted to President's House by a heavy contingent of the Pakistan army. Indeed, the only symbols of the state of Pakistan in Bangladesh were to be found in the cantonments and President's House. Elsewhere, the Bangladesh flag was seen atop every building, private as well as public.

In distant Peshawar, Air Marshal Asghar Khan called for an immediate transfer of power to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. In his view, Mujib was Pakistan's last hope and unless he was allowed to take charge of the country, Pakistan would face a break-up.

He roundly condemned Z A Bhutto's demand of the previous day that power be transferred to the Awami League in East Pakistan and to the People's Party in West Pakistan. But Bhutto remained undeterred. He repeated his demand on the ground that, in his view, the principle of strict majority rule did not apply to Pakistan. He noted that no constitution could be framed by ignoring the interests of the people of West Pakistan. His comments drew flak from other politicians in the west wing, who thought he was advocating a new two-nation theory (following Jinnah's in the 1940s) in the country.

In Dhaka, Bangabandhu announced a new series of measures aimed at continuing the non-cooperation movement. He congratulated the people of Bangladesh for the resolute manner of their struggle and predicted that such determination could not go in vain.

Meanwhile, processions continued to march toward Bangabandhu's residence, asking him to declare independence and also to acquaint themselves with the new directives that were being issued by the Awami League every day.
