Sharm-el-SHEIKH - There is no running away from the fact that the Indian side has made a major concession by accepting to include the issue of Balochistan in the joint statement released after the meeting of the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan.

Though the official line might be that it was just a mention in the statement that India will look into the “information that Pakistan has “on threats in Balochistan and other areas”, the stunning fact is that the issue of Balochistan found its way into the statement.

Pakistan has in the past several months increased its decibel level in accusing India of meddling in Baluchistan.

Pakistan Interior Ministry chief Rehman Malik said recently in Parliament: “There is a conspiracy hatched against Pakistan to destablise Pakistan.”

Malik said Brahamdad Bugti, a son of a Baluch rebel leader who was killed in a military operation in late 2006, was living in Kabul and he had admitted in a television interview that he was getting support from India.

“According to our intelligence, there are between 4,000 to 5,000 of our Baluch brothers who are based in Afghanistan, there are a few training centres,” he said.

“We also request India to stop interfering in Baluchistan … this is the time that we have to expose those hostile agencies, those hostile countries who are helping (the separatists),” he said.

The chief minister of Balochistan has blamed India’s intelligence agencies for running training camps in Iran, Afghanistan, and even in Balochistan itself.

“Conspiracies are hatched against Balochistan by anti-Pakistan forces who do not want Gwadar port to become economic hub in the region,” he has said.

He has claimed that the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) was running terrorist camps in Iran and Afghanistan.

“It has now set up 30 to 40 such camps in Balochistan, each with training facility for 30 people who are paid Rs.10,000 monthly,” the Dawn quotes him, as saying.

“The monthly expenses of each such camp are over Rs0.4 million. The money is being supplied from abroad,” he further alleged.

Till Thursday’s apparent climbdown on Balochistan, India has consistently rubbished Pakistan’s allegation that New Delhi was supporting violence in Balochistan as “utterly baseless and false” .

New Delhi has maintained that Pakistan has been facing a major backlash from Balochis since the killing of Baluch tribal leader Nawab Akbar Bugti on August 26, 2006.

Islamabad, on the other hand, has rejected criticism from both New Delhi and Kabul, calling the incident an internal affair.

Bugti was killed in unclear circumstances during an attack by Pakistani security forces on his cave hideout.

Baloch nationalists and several politicians believe that the Balochistan situation has the potential to disintegrate Pakistan, unless the government deals with the Baloch anger as a priority.

A majority believe that this resentment is the result of years of economic and political negligence.

Most Baloch people believe the Pakistan government has done little to address their grievances and they are becoming increasingly sceptical about the government’s sincerity to deal with their issues. By Smita Prakash (ANI)

Balochistan finds its way into joint statement, major concession by India

And Kashmir also did not find any reference in the joint statement.

Composite dialogue not resuming yet

Concession by Pakistan and trade off?

And is there any official record of how many times this statement has been given officially?

^^the difference this time is that this matter has been taken up by our PM with your PM. on top of that balochistan issue found its way into the joint statement as well.
and all outstanding issues include kashmir. actually that is the only major issue in 'all outstanding issues'. so dont worry too much.

In "outstanding issues" Kashmir comes, secondly some proofs have been given from Pakistani side thats why "Balochistan and other areas" issue got into the joint statment first time ever i guess.

Let's see what exactly india has to say about this. i hope they again just not end up narrating the same old story of guud governance, poverty uplift etc etc, thus provoking a knee-jerk response( stop meddling in our internal affairs) from our side.

The joint statement didn't mention Balochistan as an area of 'Indian interference', neither did it mention Kashmir. Please look up unbiased sources.

Balochistan came up in talks, only and India said it doesn't believe in interfering in any countries internal matter.

REUTERS - India and Pakistan agreed on Thursday to work together to fight terrorism and ordered senior diplomats to meet as often as needed to improve relations between the two countries, a joint statement by their prime ministers said.

Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and his Indian counterpart Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met on the sidelines of a Non-Aligned Movement summit in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

Following is a text of the joint statement issued after those talks:

The two prime ministers had a cordial and constructive meeting. They considered the entire gamut of bilateral relations with a view to charting the way forward in India-Pakistan relations.

Both leaders agreed that terrorism is the main threat to both countries. Both leaders affirmed their resolve to fight terrorism and to cooperate with each other to this end.

Prime Minister Singh reiterated the need to bring the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks to justice. Prime Minister Gilani assured that Pakistan will do everything in its power in this regard. He said that Pakistan has provided an updated status dossier on the investigations of the Mumbai attacks and had sought additional information/evidence. Prime Minister Singh said that the dossier is being reviewed.

Both leaders agreed that the two countries will share real time credible and actionable information on any future terrorist threats.

Prime Minister Gilani mentioned that Pakistan has some information on threats in Balochistan and other areas.

Both prime ministers recognised that dialogue is the only way forward. Action on terrorism should not be linked to the Composite Dialogue process and these should not be bracketed.

Prime Minister Singh said that India was ready to discuss all issues with Pakistan, including all outstanding issues.

Prime Minister Singh reiterated India's interest in a stable, democratic Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Both leaders agreed that the real challenge is development and the elimination of poverty. Both leaders are resolved to eliminate those factors which prevent our countries from realising their full potential. Both agreed to work to create an atmosphere of mutual trust and confidence.

Both leaders reaffirmed their intention to promote regional cooperation.

Both foreign secretaries should meet as often as necessary and report to the two foreign ministers, who will be meeting on the sidelines of the forthcoming U.N. General Assembly

yes that wat we are talkin about. if there is line there in a joint statement then definately a lot more would have been discussed. and lik u have said that it came up in talks. isnt that enough? thats wat talks are meant for and not for pointin gun to each others head.
and how do u know 'india said it doesn't believe in interfering in any countries internal matter'.

In indo pak relations, these joint statements are more like joint lies.I see no change on the ground whatsoever.

PM Manmohan Singh later gave did a press conference, that's how.

so finally, the Goverment of Pakistan finally speaking at the upper level that India is playing a key role to destabalize Pakistan

We the THE Pakistanis should know that this is how the world works, it did in case of Bangla desh and in case of umpteen other troubled areas in the World. It will therefore be good to mention some sayings here reminding all about how to be brave Pakistani for a brave Pakistan. Since a country is as good as its people.

-Walk softly but carry a big stick.
-If you faint in a crisis, you are weak.
-Only when we are no longer afraid do we begin to live.

We must therefore without blaming others be ready, willing and capable of facing and destroying our enemies from within and without.

This cycle wont stop as long as Pakistan is fermenting trouble in Kashmir, India will try the same medicine for pakistan. It would be better for all the people if both the countries stop meddling in each others affairs.:bounce:

SHARM-EL-SHEIKH (July 17 2009): For the first time in the history of roller-coaster Indo-Pak relations, Pakistan took up the issue of insurgency in Balochistan with India at the highest level when Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani conveyed his country's concerns to his Indian counterpart Dr Manmohan Singh about New Delhi's increasing involvement in disturbances in Balochistan on Thursday at a meeting between the two South Asian leaders on the sidelines of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit at Egyptian resort Sharm-el-Sheikh.

Although, Dr Singh's reaction to Mr Gilani's concerns does not form the text of the joint statement issued at the end of the meeting, it does state that "Prime Minister Gilani mentioned that Pakistan has some information on threats in Balochistan and other areas".

Prime minister Gilani is understood to have asked Dr Singh not to meddle in Balochistan insurgency anymore with a view to overcoming trust deficit between the two countries in an effective and meaningful manner.

Gilani is also believed to have pointed out that the disproportionate number of Indian diplomatic outposts in Afghanistan is a matter of grave concern for Pakistan and there have been signs of Indian involvement in Balochistan. The "other areas" mentioned in the joint statement where Indian involvement has been suspected is country's north-western areas where Indian-made arms and ammunition were recovered from the insurgents.

Sorry to wake you up from your dream but we are talking as of today-somewhere around July 2009, if you missed the present tense!
