AUSA 2015: Army expects Apache multiyear deal approval in March

The US Department of Defense (DoD) is expected to approve a multiyear agreement to buy about 240 Boeing AH-64 Apache helicopters from fiscal year 2017-21, US Army and company programme managers said on 12 October at the Association of the US Army's annual conference in Washington, DC.

The multiyear proposal is being studied by the DoD's Office of Cost Assessment and Program Evaluation (CAPE), said Colonel Jeff Hager, the army's Apache project manager. "We expect March 2016 approval" of the deal, he said during a press briefing. The deal is expected to be worth upwards of USD4 billion.

Mark Ballew, Boeing's head of business development for attack helicopters, said the deal would facilitate additional Foreign Military Sales (FMS). He said the company is in ongoing discussions with 10 international customers about deals for at least 75 additional aircraft. Further, he said, some customers who currently fly D-models are in talks for upgrades to the E-model.
