What's new

Army's ammunition won't last 20 days of war

actually it was more than just propellant, it was an "innovation" on OFB's part to mix the Israeli rod with russian propellant, the result was a disaster.

the situation stands as it was till today, thats why MOD ordered 66000 bm-42 mangoes and 15000-20000 invar ATGM rounds, whats is worse, the old BM-42s are now bought at 400% above the original price, are to be used by both t-72 and t-90 because acquiring newer round is not feasible as it is not be compatible with both tanks, t-90 may fire it, not the t-72.

OFB has nothing to do with "Innovation".they makes arms design which other agencies design .

How many times do one needs to be told man??Read up a few things from time to time.In this case @Dazzler is right. That hybrid project was run by the HAP (Heavy Alloy-penetrator Project factory) which falls under OFB. ARDE or any other DRDO lab had hnothing to do with this project. In fact, until very recently,ARDE never even bothered to develop a tank round of any kind since the early 80s when it first developed the 120mm FSAPDS rounds that are being used with Arjuns still today. It is only after all the efforts of importing higher grade rounds failed, the ARDE was asked to develop a new FSAPDS round for Arjun which is presently under advanced stage of development.

it is rumored to be a unitary long rod round with quad segmented WHA penetrator with some similarity to the Israeli M 338 rounds.Lets see what comes out of it.

Sorry mate, the reality is scary for you really... things that should have been taken care of from the initial procurement stage, just dont seem to occur in Indian procurements....

Indian Army To Upgrade T-90 Tanks With Domestic Help | Defense News | defensenews.com

whats worse, the tank shells (penetrators) are NOT interchangeable between T-72 and T-90s despite they both use the same gun. The trouble lays with FCS of t-90 as it cannot fire the more modern AMK-340A rounds. Did i just say "modern"? the round barely penetrates 480mm rolled armour at 2000 meters but, as per IA, it is ;)

Every one of these problems are recognized and solving..
Night vision:T-90s are upgrading indigenously...
AMK-340A in T90: MOD already asked DRDO/TATA to develop a replacement for the original Russian Ballistic Computer, using the experience gained with developing the Arjun Ballistic Computer. Then we can use AMK-340A in both T72 and T90..
AMK340A low penetration: no more amk340a and imi.. Importing mangoes better than toxic DU shells naiza( why no concern over soldier safety)..we will use Russian Invar anti-tank missiles for T-90s.Buying latest version Invar 9M119M1 (Invar-M) in large numbers..The missile has a max range of 5,000 meters at a speed of 350 meters a second (14 seconds max flight time). The Invar us to hit targets at twice the range of the 125mm shells. The tandem warhead can penetrate up to 900mm of armor (35.4 inches), twice what the 3VBM17 can.
ULTIMATE SOLUTION: DRDO AMK- MK2 almost ready for production.. Expected to start prod from 2015..
