Irfan Pathan has named his baby boy after Pakistan’s legendary pacer Imran Khan.

Irfan was blessed with a baby boy on December 19 and revealed the name of his baby on Christmas day. “This name is close to our hearts n family....The name is IMRAN #Imrankhanpathan @iamyusufpathan,” tweeted the out-of-favour Indian all-rounder.

With Irfan’s brother, Yusuf Pathan also having being an India cricketer, it was nothing surprising that they were inspired by a cricketing great.


Imran Khan is considered one of the greatest all-rounders in cricketer and his exploits as captain for Pakistan made them the top team in the 80’s and 90’s. Imran led Pakistan to their first World Cup victory in 1992.

Irfan’s hat-trick in his first over of the Karachi Test in 2006 had earned the India pacer high praise from Pakistani great Imran Khan, who lauded his maturity at a young age and his bowling action resembled him of a young Wasim Akram.

Truly his action was like Akram's.

One similarity i observed was the way both Imran and Irfan held the seam position while bowling.

That is one of the basic principles of swing bowling to hold the seam upright and then use the shine on bowl to move laterally in the air. (@WAJsal correct?)
One difference between two bowlers is perhaps that of speed. While Wasim was consistently in 85-90 mph range, Irfan was slightly slower. Even for swing bowlers ability to generate pace is important for the fact that if you wish to use reverse swing, it helps if you can generate greater pace, at which it becomes even more pronounced.

Akram is the most liked Pakistani cricketer in India.

in my childhood, we all used to practice his famous short run up and heavy shoulder involved action. i don't think any other cricketer from Pakistan commands that kind of respect and admiration in India as Wasim bhai. He is a true legend.

Guys...if you have to understand...very fundamental thing....We do not have any issue in naming any one from Pakistan..Imran Khan is a great cricketer...So does Soib Akhtar too...What is wrong in naming them...

I think some of us might have reservation with some kings name who are basically invaders....But again at the end of the day, this kind of topic should be left to the parents...I feel very pathetic that even we are discussing about name of a kid here...
