After SNMG-2's rotation to Mediterranean and the arrival of TCG Gökçeada's to home. Commander of TNF, Adm. Bostanoğlu has signed an order to deploy a ship in Aden in order to support the Navy's doctrine of always keeping a ship deployed on the Indian Ocean as well as providing VBSS training to friendly nations. Second commissioned ship of MILGEM Project, TCG Büyükada left the homeland for Indian Ocean. Today the deployment schedule has been released.

A fine looking corvette/light frigate. Turkey has come a long way in naval shipbuilding. Gone are the days of used US and FRG navy ships (well, at least when the last G-class retires). Very curious to see what they will come up with to - eventually - replace their Meko 200TNs and OHP/FFG7s.

Me too. TF-2000 will probably be commissioned around 2022. Personally, I miss the days CSGs consisting of Iowa Jima battleships, FFG-7 and Nimitz :).

COMBAT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AND SYSTEM ENTEGRATION FOR MILGEM CORVETTE

Parallel to the late developments in local Defence Industry, Turkish Navy designs, develops and builts its' first mid-size (2000 T) corvette. HAVELSAN, being one of the largest contributor to the MILGEM Project as the main system integrator, provides Combat and Combat Management systems.

As for the Combat Management System, HAVELSAN offers an updated and tailored version of GENESIS Combat Management System for MILGEM to meet the requirements of the Turkish Navy. HAVELSAN CMS activities on MILGEM include;
  • Combat Management on main warfare disciplines (ASW, ASUW, AAW),
  • Track Management
  • Navigation,
  • Sensor/weapon control,
  • Training and simulation,
  • Subsystem Integration
On the other hand, HAVELSAN also plays a critical role in MILGEM project as the main system integrator. Weapons and sensor integration into the CMS, as well as system integration, is being realised by HAVELSAN.

HAVELSAN integration activities on MILGEM include;
  • Weapon/sensor integration to the CMS
  • Procurement and integration of;
    • Combat Management System Multifunction Operator Consoles and Cabinets
    • Torpedo Countermeasures System
  • Design/production and integration of;
    • Ship Data Distribution and Time System
    • Combat System Data and Video Network
    • Message Handling System
    • Ship Information System
    • ASW Torpedo Fire Control System
Ship Data Distribution System (SDDS)

As a critical part of the system integration, the Ship Data Distribution Systems (SDDS) plays an important role for this project. Being aware of the potential integration implications and a probable high cost of an imported system, HAVELSAN decided to design its own SDDS. Now, HAVELSAN SDDS is not only succesfuly implemented for MILGEM, it has also been used for The New Type Patrol Boat. In addition, a subsurface version of the SDDS has been designed and produced for the New Type Submarine Project.

ASW Torpedo Fire Control System

ASW Torpedo FCS is another indigenous product which has been designed and produced by HAVELSAN for use in the MILGEM project. With HAVELSAN Torpedo FCS, by providing full integration with platform Combat Management System, reaction time against the threat has been radically reduced and with the precise target information produced by the system, combat power of the platform has been enhanced.
HAVELSAN has enforced its expertise and capabilities in Naval Combat Systems with more than 120 highly-qualified personnel in Istanbul region. In addition, HAVELSAN has reorganized its Naval Combat Systems Group in a brand new building named as "Combat Management Systems Technologies Center" in Istanbul Naval Shipyard.

Supported by all those expertise and infrastructure, HAVELSAN now offers an indigenous, flexible and affordable alternative in modern naval combat systems engineering and system integration.

indigenous are e.g.
Ship Integrated Combat Management System
hull mounted sonar + sonar dome
digital chart precise integrated navigation system (ECPINS)
Integrated platform management system (IPMS),
ARES-2N sigint system

non-indigenous are e.g.
Thales Smart-S MK2 radar ,
Sting EO Mk2 WCR

Interesting how the shape of the bridge has changed....

Some additional buoyancy aids added, I see. Still amphibious, able to cross rivers etc?

Smart-S Mk-2 radars are being produced by Aselsan. Turkish Smart-S radars have domestic T/R modules which make them special and superior than originals.

Yes, An Amphibious vehicle with a weight of 30 tonnes. Turret + AKR fire control radar are going to be integrated on naval platform with a name of Korkut-D + AKR-D in following years.

Thales, one of the world's leading companies in the defense, aerospace and transportation markets, has chosen to procure radar transmitter/receiver (T/R) modules from Aselsan. The first order placed by Thales is for 100 units to be installed in the company’s SMART-S Mk2 radars, a globally popular 3-D search radar for naval platforms. Aselsan will start delivering the modules at the beginning July 2015.
T/R modules, which are essentially the units responsible for the transmission and reception of signals in radar systems, represent state-of-the-art radar technology and require highly specialized manufacturing infrastructure. Aselsan has recently attracted attention with a diverse portfolio of T/R modules that are indigenously developed for new generation radars at various frequency bands.
Benefiting from over 25 years heritage in microwave systems and substantial investment in microwave module design & production, Aselsan stands out as a supplier of high-end microwave units, leveraging combined advantages in both cost and performance aspects.
