Powered by a brilliant 171 by opener Alex Hales, England posted the highest total in One-Day Internationals as they smashed an incredible 444 runs for the loss of only three wickets in the third match of the series against Pakistan at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Tuesday.

The previous best was 443/9 which Sri Lanka scored against the Netherlands at Amstelveen in 2006.

This is also the highest total between two Test playing nations with the previous best being 439/2 which South Africa scored against the West Indies at Johannesburg in 2015.

Records tumbled at Trent Bridge as Alex Hales, on his Nottinghamshire home ground, first broke Robin Smith's 23-year-old record for the highest ODI score by an Englishman. Robin Smith had scored a magnificent 167 not out way back in 1993 against Australia at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Hales hammered as many as 22 boundaries and four sixes in his 122-ball innings

Then Jos Buttler's 22-ball fifty, the fastest ever by an Englishman, set another national mark as England passed 400 for the second time in their history. Buttler overall scored an unbeaten 90 off 51 balls, featuring seven fours and seven sixes.

England's previous own highest total was 408/9 which they scored against New Zealand in Birmingham last year.

The hosts' skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and wisely chose to bat against Pakistan. After the loss of Jason Roy (15) at the start, it was an England show all the way along.

Hales and Joe Root (85) smashed a brilliant 248-run second-wicket partnership at a run rate of 7.83 per over to provide the platform for the middle-order to accelerate.

Skipper Morgan (57 not out), who also smashed three fours and five sixes, and Jos Buttler (90 not out) followed up with an unbeaten 161-run fourth-wicket stand at a staggering run-rate of 13.41 to power their team to the highest total ever achieved in the 50-over format.

All Pakistani bowlers went for more than six runs per over with Mohammad Nawaz being the most economical, giving away 62 runs from his 10 overs and taking one wicket.

Apart from Nawaz only Hasan Ali was among wicket-takers as the medium fast bowler scalped two.

Pakistan's left-arm fast bowler Wahab Riaz, who twice took 'wickets' with no-balls, finished with figures of none for 110 in his 10 overs. This was the second-most expensive ODI spell behind Australian Mick Lewis's none for 113 against South Africa at Johannesburg in 2006.

England currently lead the five-match series 2-0 vs Pakistan.

Pakistan is a country where a person who have played just 6 matches and doesn't have name in squad become Captain.
A person who are alleged in 45 cases become mayor.
A person who say Pakistan ...... and Raw agent own a political Party.
A person who say on floor of the house KP is a part of afghanistan is ally of Government.
A faimly which is alleged in Panama leaks is ruling faimly.

Any thing is possible in Pakistan.

And they have the best bowlers

What happened to riaz ?? To old

Embarrassing, England is one of the worst ODI sides in the world as well.

Pakistan needs to produce batters. There's always going to be some bad days for bowlers but we don't have a balance.

England will win the test series and India will win the ODI series.
I dought
They can win test this India this time
My dear spinners its heaven

And England lack one

India under kumble is another level last time they were lucky

I (personally) will be contented if the team at least have shown some fight back...which they didn't show that was very disappointing.

Pakistani batting, fielding and bowling all three department are in poor shape. They are struggling to make 250/260 runs on good batting track and with this average score you can only win if bowlers perform by taking wickets regularly which is not happening. These days one days cricket is all about staying on ground but finding ways to score quickly.

Congratulations to the PCB for this humiliation. They deserve that

These are 300-350 pitches

Our batting is under performing its potential is 250-260 only

You cant expect bowlers to restrict batsmen on pitches that are very good batting pitches

ODI cricket have changed a lot in last few years but for some reason we are still playing the OD cricket of 90s i.e. the players take time to settle on the wicket by consuming lot of dot balls etc...all this has to change... the mindset need to change..."lakin yeh sab karey ga kon....:what:"

Sir, I bet you... what you will hear from the PCB is something on the lines of:

"The ODI team is in the re-building stage and the current players need time to settle in and this team needs time to mature"

and therefore

"Azhar Ali" will remain (God forbid) as Captain of this current team including (Shoaib Malik) (Khuda na karey) and alikes to give this young team some experience"

yes this recent trend of t20 has changed the batsman approach towards one days..great one days batsman score runs at much faster rate without playing much risky shots but shots selection of our batsman is so poor as if they have no clue where are fielders and where are scoring opportunities ..Hope Coach mickey arther fix this soon otherwise we are doom as i think Pak will have to tour Australia soon

England bowlers are doing it as Pakistan did bat first in first two ODI
