Those are old jets, probably F-16A's from the early 1980's. They are nearly 30 years old. We purchased hundreds and hundreds in the great re-arming era to try and force an end to the cold war, and operating and maintaining all of them was too costly. So older jets are retired as newer ones come on line.

The bone yard is full of F-14's as well, and F-15's. Probably the early hornets, too.

you should sell these to developing nations at funny prices...like $5-10 mil....

Economics !!!

Selling this planes which has still enough juice left in them at such funny prices will cause an overflow in the combat jet market , causing the preset production lines to shutdown hampering future development of aircrafts.... and the biggest loser in this scenario will be US. So it makes perfect market sense to just allow these jets to rot in the sun than give to other countries at throw away prices. Long term benefits truimphs short term gains.

^ pic2 really ''stripped'' it off of its masculine characteristics [no wings]

You guys would be surprised how many J-5/MiG-17 became decoration in Chinese parks and playgrounds.

Pakistan has also placed some examples in parks as well....there is a funny color scheme picture of J-5 in a children park with F-16's No.11 Sqn insignia along the tail....i'll hunt my HD for that funny pic!

Here goes the pic, it was published in Shaheen Magazine(Official PAF Mag) summer 1993 issue.....the interesting thing to note is the 'Arrow' along the tail and the color scheme to attract children as its parked in Children park in Sargodha.

I was wondering who gave the 11Sqn's insignia to the painter....should be one from the 9 Sqn:lol::lol:
