Afghanistan: Taliban ban Helmand barbers from trimming beards

Mark my words, Afghanistan will never see peace because it's not a society, it never was. Call them a graveyard of bla bla but the only time they remain civilized were under Persian and Turkish occupation that remained for hundreds of years. Or else, Afghans are just like outlawed creatures.

I reckon there are unsurfaced schisms within the Taliban, some are hardliners. If true they might find it hard to establish central control. Some among them ridicule Imran while zabiullah thanked him in his most recent press conference. For the worst case scenario where TTP isn't reprimanded by EIA, Pakistan might engage in cross border ops as recommended by Ejaz Haider.
Zabiullah Mujahid seems to be a polished (mature) personality; he is Good Face of Afghan Taliban.

The group as a whole might be a different matter altogether.

It in fact is "Choon Choon Ka Murabba" and "Bhaan Mati Ka Kumba". It is not at all a cohesive political setup.

That is correct. The real question is that how to tame this "Ghol e Beyabaani", in order to protect Pakistan.

Can Afghanistan establish a school to train govt officials? Similar to China's Central Party school. Unify and determine the policies of the central govt.

To be a mature society, Afghanistan might take a century or two.

It was a good society at least in the cities in the 1980s. Below is Abdul Ahad Momand, only the second South Asian in space, who stayed aboard the USSR's space station Mir when Afghanistan was the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan :

He left the country in 1992 as the so-called Mujahideen were coming close to Kabul. A good article on his short return to the country in 2014.

This is one of the hardest things to sort out tbh. As Major Amir said, we made favorites in Afghanistan that worsened the situation. We favored Hekmatyar against Massoud and later the Taliban against him. Resulting in Massoud taking assistance from Indians. We literally did nothing when Taliban slaughtered the whole population of Mazar i Sharif. We made 80 percent of Afghans our enemies. 40 percent of Pashtuns in Afghanistan and 20 percent of them didn't like Taliban after their initial rule.

Its either that we keep supporting Taliban but ask them to make an inclusive government which they won't because they want to implement their version of Pashtunic Islam which doesn't make sense. If they include Turks Tajiks Uzbeks Hazaras and so on, they'd face resistance in imposition of their laws by Hanafi Fiqh because majority of Afghanistan is Hanafi which contradicts the laws imposed by Taliban.

now wait where have i seen/heard that before, YEAH RIGHT !!!!! in Makkah, barber refused to trim my moustache as it was not legally allowed, point being how about we stop bashing on unnecessary things or if we have to bash we do it across the board

Most probably a stupid propaganda by bullshit broadcasters.

These people are animals and only solution to get them in line is someone conquering them. Pakistan should have invaded Afghanistan long ago back in 1990s and we would have had all Americans and Europeans support. No need to be weak towards these nations with no nukes and barely an army.

The central government may decide something once it becomes an issue. They need a way to proactively codify their rules so these edicts don’t look so arbitrary and look like they came out of the blue.

Countries that work with them should send their top Islamic Scholars to talk to them on the key issues, and try to persuade them of what can be made mandatory and what is recommended but not mandatory on the people. As with any movement taking power, in the early phase, there is a desire to be fully revolutionary, but that needs to be tempered by the wisdom of scholars.

We need to understand something about Afghan cities, particularly in the north, and particularly Kabul. A lot of the residents are the former rural population of the northern and central provinces (Uzbeks, Tajiks, and Hazaras) that came in to benefit from foreign aid over the last 20 years, and might find it hard to accept Taliban rule if it is coupled with elements of Pashtun culture instead of just Islam. A city of less then a million in 2001 is now a city of 6 million. Giving the people time to get use to the changes has the benefit of an increased likelihood of acceptance, especially if coupled with moderation and the ruling of prominent religious scholars the people are willing to listen to.

Sure sure, the Taliban have actually been busy building high-quality neighborhoods in new townships for the four million homeless Afghans and setting up an ideal Socialist Islamic welfare-based society where no one will go hungry or needlessly ill and otherwise be socio-economically deprived. They have also been setting up futuristic co-ed schools and negotiating with the Russians to send the second Afghan to space onboard a Russian rocket.

The "Islamic" Emirate of Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001 ruled with the consent of the Western governments as is also the case now.

But yes I agree with you in general that Pakistan should help the progressives in Afghanistan like the Solidarity Party of Afghanistan in overthrowing the Taliban.

To get used to changed and ruled of "prominent religious scholar" ? Are you supporting them, man ?

Who are these "prominent religious scholars" ?

Is also the case now because USA failed to conquer them. They would have conquered if we didn't supplied Taliban and helped them. What i am saying is even before US invasion, we should have been the one who invaded. With their funding we would have absolutely dominated Afghanistan and forever would have been their trusted partner.

Tajiks and Uzbeks are by and large also Sunni Muslims but have their own scholars that they maybe willing to listen to. Also, scholars from other Islamic countries or even other deobandi scholars maybe able to persuade them of what is Sunnath and what is Fahd.

No, Not supporting them, just hoping they see sense and stop being so stubborn. Their zeal is like the early French Revolution, and it will set them back until they get more realistic.

Afghanistan: Taliban ban Helmand barbers from trimming beards

The Taliban have banned hairdressers in Afghanistan's Helmand province from shaving or trimming beards, saying it breaches their interpretation of Islamic law.
Anyone violating the rule will be punished, Taliban religious police say.
Some barbers in the capital Kabul have said they also received similar orders.

The instructions suggest a return to the strict rulings of the group's past tenure in power, despite promises of a milder form of government.
Since taking power last month, the Taliban have carried out harsh punishments on opponents. On Saturday, the group's fighters shot dead four alleged kidnappers and their bodies were hung in the streets of the western city of Herat.

In a notice posted on salons in southern Helmand province, Taliban officers warned that hairdressers must follow Sharia law for haircuts and beards.

"No one has a right to complain," the notice, which was seen by the BBC, read.

"The fighters keep coming and ordering us to stop trimming beards," one barber in Kabul said. "One of them told me they can send undercover inspectors to catch us."

Another hairdresser, who runs one of the city's biggest salons, said he received a call from someone claiming to be a government official. They instructed him to "stop following American styles" and not to shave or trim anyone's beard.

During the Taliban's first stint in power from 1996 to 2001, the hardline Islamists banned flamboyant hairstyles and insisted that men grow beards.

But since then, clean-shaven looks have become popular and many Afghan men have gone to salons for fashionable cuts.

But the barbers, who have not been named to protect their safety, say the new rules are making it hard for them to make a living.

"For many years my salon was somewhere for young people to shave as their wish and look trendy," one told the BBC. "There is no point continuing this business."

"Fashion salons and barbers are becoming forbidden businesses," another said. "This was my job for 15 years and I don't think I can continue."

Another barber in Herat said that although he had not received an official order, he had stopped offering beard trims.
"Customers don't shave their beards [because] they don't want to be targeted by the Taliban fighters in the streets. They want to blend in and look like them."

Despite slashing his prices for a cut, his business has dried up. "Nobody cares about their style or hair fashion," he said.

If RSS can kill people just for carrying beef. If a 100s of years old Masjid can be demolished just under suspecion. Europeans can come to Palestine and expell them from their houses just because some 2000 years ago some third party was inhabitant of Palestine, then let taliban to take this small akward step too.

Looks like Taliban are in hurry and don't want to rule for long. Taliban need to understand who they will rule if all of Aghanistan leave the country for good. Then they will rule only animals.
