Amazing photos indeed.

Now the reason Afghanistan doesn't look so 'green' is because many locals cut down the trees, for firewood, as you know there is little infrastructure in Afghanistan and certainly little central heating in homes. So many locals are forced to chop down the trees for firewood to keep themselves warm especially during the brutal winter months.

As a result the place becomes more arid, dry, and very dusty...

nice job S-2 - truly amazing!

These pictures show only one side of the story. They story about American side. Believe me no one want NATO and US in Afghanistan only people who want them in Afghanistan are handful of people working for afghan government.

It's always breathtaking looking at the scenery in Afghanistan.

What scenery? It looks like a big dusty rock with a bunch of poppy fields.

The ancient Indus Valley Civilization of Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa looked more developed than present day Afghanistan.

Definition of beauty is dfferent for everyone. Even I enjoy Afghan scenery.

And BTW, Afghanistan was never place occupied by jungles & trees.

Reminds me a lot of our American west.

Not the Pacific coast with it's coniferous rain-forests but basically everything else west of Kansas.

I think it's an unbelievably beautifully wild place.

I love it, believe it or not.

beautiful pictures indeed, but what about the gloomy side....
